Larry's first trip to the mountains
This is an email from Larry's foster parents
Hello, Susan! I wanted to email you pictures of Larry's first trip to the mountains. This is the first time we have really taken him on a mountain trail ride. Larry and Brian had to work on learning each other's body language. Larry was cautious, but eager to do what Brian asked. Larry has a strong desire to please, he only needs to understand what he is being asked to do. He went through timber, fallen trees, and bogs with caution at first, but became more confident all the time. His only problem we had to work on was water. He didn't like small 1 foot creeks at all and the streams over 5 foot wide took coaxing. With much time... and allowing him to pick his spot, he got better at the small creeks. As long as Seppy and I went across first, he would cross the bigger streams carefully. He would even stop and drink and play in the streams at the end of the weekend. We found his desire to please us greater than his fears. Brian was concerned about his big feet being noisy in the timber, but Larry always knew where his feet were at all times and stepped over logs without a sound. His large feet were a blessing in the bogs as he didn't dig into the bog, but like large pontoons, he stayed on top. That was good for the land and Larry was confident crossing.
