Dutch name for a SORREL Standardbred mare This mare is sound.  She has a star and two white ankles and is approximately 15'2 hands. Zerkle has lots of zip - she made almost $100,000 as a race horse, retired, then has produced two foals who have each made over $60,000 She is a free-legged pacer but trained with hobbles, and when she takes off her tail is high in the air! Kokinos (4yr)

Standardbred gelding - chestnut - about 15 hands - new to ASAP and settling in really well.  He loves to frolic in his new surroundings! UPDATE (10/24): Kokinos is here and has settled in nicely. I spoke at length with his former owner recently.  I asked him what Kokinos meant, but I knew it was a Greek word.  He translated Kokinos as "red".  The first time he laid eyes on Kokinos and saw his beautiful sorrel color he knew he wanted to name him Kokinos.  And Kokinos it has been!  He was very sad that his horse would not make it as a race horse.  He does not have more than one racing at a time, and went to great lengths to help this gelding succeed.  He was a bit thin so had him checked out thoroughly at a university vet clinic.  He had worms pretty badly when he first got him but otherwise the bloodwork was normal.  Kokinos was de-wormed and since that time has been healthy.  He is in good flesh and a very friendly, calm animal.  One question I forgot to ask Pete is why Kokinos has a soft bump or lump on the side of his front foot.  It is like a fluid-filled lump, but the vet said it is not attached and does not pose any health threat.  We may opt to have it removed, and could have come from some kind of trauma to the front foot but did not involved the hoof. Kokinos will be saddle trained soon!
Sweet Billy N

Sweet Billy is very stunning and high-headed - a short back and short neck and a very sweet face. He is from New Zealand! UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (4/10): Sweet Billy has settled in very well.  Unfortunately, our weather has kept us from trying his riding level but he is as always sweet! In northern Minnesota. UPDATE (7/5): Billy is a very conscientious horse.  He is very willing to learn and does well in the arena and out on the trails.  We have been riding him bitless and he does just fine!  He is 11 years old.  With slight contact, he paces very smoothly.  He truly loves people and has the best ground manners.
Izabeau (9yr)

STB mare. Bay. Izabeau has been at BK Ranch for 3 years.  She has progressed well into a very nice trail horse - willing to go out on her own and paces like nobody's business - very fun to ride.  She has a definite personality and gets attached to a person rather than liking people in general.  She really has never offered to buck or do anything worrisome under saddle.  Another horse that once bonded with you is yours for life!! In northern Minnesota.
Skittles (2yr)
QH gelding. Gray Van Kandy's son. Gray roan gelding. Halter trained. Please call ASAP for more details.
Buttons (4yrs)

2001 Thoroughbred/Standardbred chestnut gelding. Currently 16 hands and will probably mature to a little over 16 hands. He is well-started (walk, trot, canter, trail rides, started over small fences-mainly logs on x-country). Buttons is sound and full of life. Please call ASAP for more details. (UPDATE (5/22): Buttons is still here, and why?  He is stunningly gorgeous, sound, and a friend to people.  He is naturally curious, playful, and ready to do more than what he is doing here, which is wait for a home.  He has been ridden both in indoor arenas and outdoors.  He is not trained to tie, but does ground tie for trims and grooming and tacking.  He is over 16 hands!  Would make a beautiful English horse!
General Sam (6yr)
Standardbred gelding. Bay 15'2 hands. Coffin bone injury - resting in Illinois. Nice personality - no vices - Please call or email for more info.
Irresistible Lou (17yr)

Reg. Quarter horse mare. Very nice and well mannered. Current owner states, "My daughter started riding on her when she was 10 years old. Used to ride her around bare back around the yard and even showed her a little in 4-H and some open shows. The past couple of years she has not been ridden much. I did ride her once this spring and she was fine. I think she would do well for pretty much anyone, but it would be she is smart and can take advantage of a timid rider, so best if it is someone who at least has a little experience or a parent that is experienced that can help the child. Then I think they would do just fine. Lou's main problem is that she has Thyroid deficiency so is on Thyro L medicine every day. The medicine is really not that expensive, maybe avg. about $10-$12 per month. She is also prone to metabolic disorder so she is not supposed to be on pasture at all, and she will get laminitis type symptoms if she is on grass. She has good days and bad days, but most of the time is sound to ride. Seems to do better in the colder months then in the summer for some reason. No vet can explain to me why that is for sure. Just something I have noticed. She also seems to do better if she has shoes in the front esp. if riding her on gravel. It is because of her "special needs" that it has been hard for me to find a home for her. I am sure she would make some little kid very happy."
Strawberry
QH mare. Sorrel. Sweet and pretty. Please call ASAP for more details.
Tara's Melody (21yr)

This lovely mare will be your child's or grandchild's new best friend. Tara is quiet and ever so forgiving. Don't be fooled by her age she is in good health and condition. At 21 years of age the owner suggests Tara be used for light work only . She'd make a great beginner horse. Due to family problems the owner sadly has to return her to the program. Tara is up to date on all shots, she has regular worming and farrier care. She is located on the Wisconsin Illinois border.
Picante Star (3yr)
Standardbred filly. Sound. Described as "blissful!" Located in Kentucky - we would like a foster placement or adoptive home for this horse!
Thomas John (8yr)

Standardbred gelding. This horse would be a great companion, riding horse, and pet. Sound. Bay. Foal date: 04/01/1997. Star. Left hind pastern white, higher inside and in back. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (2/14): I was up on TJ today and he did really wel. Pulled him out, threw on the tack and climbed on---not a bit of fuss. Even rode him in a hackmore. He still isn't completely sure of the new way of steering---but he does his best to please. He's a nice little guy all around. Under 15 hands. Easy to be around.
Egyptian Lace (14yr)

This Standardbred mare has been a brood mare for the past couple of years.  She is a bay... she has a beautiful star with connecting strip and snip.  Left hind ankle white. She was foaled in Sherman, Illinois on May 21, 1991. Breeding:   Egyptian Dancer - Mildred Ambler - Bret Hanover Egyptian Lace is going to be fostered in Galena Illinois with Dondi B. who  is adopter of Christopher Too N (donated by Bell Valley Farms several years ago) For contact info, call ASAP or email Susan at asapinc@mwt.net.
Barefootin Lady (9yr)

STB mare returning to program. 15.1 hands. She is black except for a tiny star. Current adopter states, "In the summer Footin bleaches out. Footin is a great horse. Footin can turn on a dime. She has an awesome extended trot. She has pulled kids on sleds during winter. She is great when I lead her with little children on her back. She is especially great at this. If a little child starts to fall she will stop an wait for one of us to put the child on right. She has had English saddles on as well as western and Australian saddles on. She does well with all. I mount up on her on both her right and left side. She is up to date on all shots and trimmings. I have an appointment to have her teeth floated. She has never needed shoes on while I have had her. She loads, clips, and does pretty well with being hosed off. When she runs she carries her tail like an Arab.  I have had her on trails 3 to 4 times. She was great. She has been stabled next to a rifle range. Within the first month of having Footin, she chose to jump a 4 foot gate at a stand still. She took the gate with her, and as a result she cut the front tendon in her back right leg. She has a large scar that runs from the front of her hock down to her pastern. This injury does NOT bother her or cause any problems. She is SOUND. She can jump, do dressage and I believe do anything you put her to." Please call for more details.
Dealer Donnie D

STB gelding. He is almost black! This Standardbred is around eleven years of age. He is submissive in a herd and will readily give up his feed for another horse if pushed away and will go hungry rather than fight. He needs a home where he is pampered and loved and where other horses will give him all the hay and feed he deserves. He is around 15'3 - 16 hands tall. Dealer Donnie D is an easy keeper and he is a gentle giant. He is great to handle - quiet and willing. He does not like to be bothered when he is being grained, so if you go in his stall with him, expect his ears to go back until his supper is finished! He also does not like to be scratched on his chest area but other than this you can touch him anywhere and do anything with him. We have not ridden him yet but believe he is ready and willing. He deserves a lifetime home with someone who can expect a horse who will give back 150%. Call 608-689-2399 or email Susan at asapinc@mwt.net if you can adopt him!
Lone Oak (4yr)

Standardbred gelding. LIVER CHESTNUT - 14 hands. Owner states:  "Nice gelding - not broke to ride but broke to drive.  Has only raced approximately 10 times.  Sound." Contact ASAP for more details. UPDATE (1/27): Lone Oak is very small- if he is 14 hands he is lucky. He is the cutest little guy you have ever seen. He is curious and friendly - never runs from anyone.  He always wants to be in our back pockets. He only raced 10 times but with his size it would be crazy to keep him going - he was owned by a vet and he wanted the best for Lone Oak so decided to donate him and take a tax write-off.  Lone Oak wasn't used to anything when he came and has since learned how to be a city-boy-moved-to-the-country!  He likes other horses and is not dominant in a herd.  He is an easy keeper and also a gentleman in a trailer.  He doesn't seem to be herd bound at all. I will retrain him to saddle for anyone who is interested - he is harness trained right now but I can ride him and have him ready in one to two weeks.  He has just been here getting used to a whole new way of life. I love him dearly -he is really black in the summer!
Miss Josie

Please call for more details. At the ASAP farm.
Frank N Hank

Standardbred gelding - bay - 15 hands. Trained to ride and drive - available for re-placement. This horse originally was placed with ASAP from Michigan and last raced in Michigan. He is sweet and easy to handle - is in a herd with several other horses and is the boss. Sweet face - stocky - near Winona MN. $450. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: He now  has begun to trust us. He comes running to the fence for attention and love. You can put any child on him, experienced or not and  you should not have problems. He is eleven and really will enjoy being the  only one getting attention.
Day In Court (foal)
Filly. ROAN!  Appaloosa/Standardbred cross. Current owner states, "She sound and sane. She is leads, ties, loads, bathes, easily caught, loves people. I wormed her for the first time 2 days ago. She did very well. You can touch any part of her you want. She also ties out on a long grazing rope. Her feet grows tons of heel and so they have to be regularly trimmed. I am doing the bare foot trim on her, keeping her heels trimmed way back. She is kid safe. Although the very fact she is a baby I would not let kids "train" her. She has two hind socks and a small star. She has the appaloosa eyes (white scelera). Lots of roaning. Quiet personality. She is a determined horse and will require someone with a determined personality."
Proudest Guy N (9yr)
STB gelding. Foaling Date: 4/9/1996. Training: Harness Racing, Pleasure Driving, Dressage. He is a 16.3h 9 year old Dark Bay standardbred gelding.  Current adopter states, "He is trained to ride but needs more practice.  He is incredibly sensible, smart, determined and honest.  He has tremendous ground manners and great with kids. Loves ring work, but doesn't like riding on streets, over water or jumping.  Would be a good dressage horse as he loves to learn and is really determined to figure out what you want and please you. He is schooling Training level dressage only because of past issues with cantering. His Trot is smoothing out and he is INCREDIBLY sensitive to your aids. You think about what you want and he will do his best to do it. He has ring bone in his front feet but only the right front bother's him.  Needs yucca or BL Solution daily and good trimming if he is in daily work. Otherwise he is just about effortless to take care of and be around. Will mug you for treats and is always willing to come in and work. Up to date on shots and worming." Read more about Guy by visiting his online journal.
Colonel Meacham (12yr)
15.3HH. Grey Roan pacing Standardbred gelding.  Colonel is a natural jumper with 5 gaits.  He will perform walk, running walk, trot, pace, and canter.  He prefers trot and canter to anything else.  He paces when he needs extra balance or is confused.  He is very talented but is NOT dominant in a herd.  He likes a lighter weight and confident rider.  He is wonderful on trails... nothing phases him. He looks and acts like a TB but IF he spooks they are short and easy to ride.  Just collect him back on the aids and walk past it a few times and he is totaly cool with it. He is located with Proudest Guy.
Stylish Sharon (19yr)
She has been both a race horse and a brood mare. She is located in Illinois - she is a bay.
