Jack (3yr)
STB gelding. (Registered name coming.) This small, friendly horse has no bad habits. Located in KY. Call ASAP for more details. |
Mighty Mack (3yr)
STB gelding. He has no visible injuries or detectable problems. He has been examined by veterinarians on two separate occasions with negative results regarding fractures or OCD's. He is a sweetheart with no meanness or bad habits. He is just not comfortable pacing at high speed. Mighty Mack has been on the recommended schedule for worming and immunizations. A coggins test was conducted a few weeks ago as well (results negative). UPDATE (5/7): A real show-stopper. Almost black, all of 15'2 hands and possibly taller - well muscled and thick neck with long thick mane and tail. He is a beauty to behold!!! He is also well mannered and curious and herds well with others. This horse is going to go quickly. UPDATE (6/6): This glistening dark bay is only three years old and is stunning to see. He is naturally curious and loves to be taken around the farm to sniff at things and explore. He is still so young so sometimes acts uncertain but is never a problem to handle. He began learning lungeing this week with a saddle on. He got a bit excited during this lesson and his tail went straight up and curled as he cantered around in circles. He is a beautiful boy with tons of potential! |
Sundown

Sundown (back) is a retired Quarter Horse therapy horse. Please consider giving him a home - adoption fee is set low. If you can give a home please call! 608-689-2399 or email Sue at asapinc@mwt.net. Now with Mark and Denise in Menominee, WI. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (8/14): Though Sundown came to us a bit underweight, he held his own through the winter - thanks to donations of weight builder. He has been slowly gaining weight through the summer and in the last month we have seen an improvement in his over all spirt and composure. He is also moving more soundly although he is not sound for riding. |
Standardbred Mare

This mare needs a new start on life! Please contact ASAP if you can step in to adopt this beauty. She was rescued from an auction by a kind-hearted woman who wants her to have a great future!
 |
Tangible JJ (5yr)
Standardbred gelding. Bay. In Elgin, IL. Last raced March 30, 2004. No breaks or fractures, but last time was 2:05 so vet recommends retirement. Call Susan for more details or email asapinc@mwt.net. |
Sporty Bunny (7yr)
STB mare. Bay. 15.1hh. Current foster family states, "She's good at pulling a cart and green under saddle. She rides with a snaffle. Have used both English and western saddles. She is traffic safe. Not a dominant mare. Loads and does well for the farrier. UTD on all her vaccinations (including West Nile), has her Coggins, recently wormed, and has shoes on the front only. She has a nice slow pace that is very smooth, then she has that REALLY fast pace. We haven't cantered her under saddle but have seen her do it in the round pen, so she CAN canter. Very sweet disposition. Easy to catch as she comes right up to you in the paddock." Please call ASAP for more details. UPDATE (5/3): Bunny has gone out on ten rides and done very well. Beginners have been riding this well-mannered horse. Hurry to catch her before someone else does! Located in Darien, WI. |
Belle Valley Yank

UP FOR ADOPTION--AGAIN! THIS FELLOW REALLY NEEDS A PERMANENT HOME. STB gelding returning to the program. His current adopter states, "He has turned into the best riding horse. He has no winter coat. He has just been wormed and his hooves are good. I have a teenager riding him for me and he is so well behaved and tolerates any kind of saddle. He will make a great trail horse for someone but he needs a home where he can be outside with other horses. He loves that the most. His only vice I can't break him off yet is his nipping at my clothes--he always thinking I am a giant walking treat. He lunges great. When you hold up your arm and drop the riding crop he stops. He loves people so much. He is breathtakingly beautiful." Currently being fostered in northern Minnesota. UPDATE (6/6): Yank's foster family took him for a long trail ride. They report he didn't flinch, spook, or start at anything. He was a good leader and also followed nicely. This is a good trail horse! UPDATE (7/27): Yank is a terrific personality. Very people oriented. We are pretty much trail riders here but its obvious that somewhere along the line he was taught some leg aids. He definitely has been ridden English as he does not neck rein at this time. Quick learner and very well behaved under saddle. He can at times invade your space on the ground and needs to be reminded of that off and on. He does not handle change too well and has been shuttled around too mcuh this year since his adopted came up with very bad cancer and he had to find a home right away. Once he settled in here, he was a different horse! Very relaxed - but - it took a few weeks. He does best in a small herd and outside as much as possible. Being cooped up too much in a stall is not his best thing. He has beautiful confirmation and soft eyes. He walks, trots, paces and canters. However, does not trot on cue yet. Trots by voice when lunging. About 16 hands or a bit more.

St. Ann's Bay (6yr)
Standardbred mare - bay with white foot. EZ to be around - not a really big horse according to her owner. She has been laid up this year due to a weak ankle. She was recently brought back but isn't training to adequate speed. Currently being fostered in the Quad Cities area. UPDATE (1/2): Big dark bay. Easy 16H and 930#. Quiet with some spooking. Wasn't that excited about the tape so I will get a closer number later in the week. Was moving fine on the rough hard pack, has long toes so will get those trimmed next week. Sensible girl that went with the flow and worked through some "new" stuff. UPDATE (1/25) Lead Line -- comes in when called (after you move off the aggressive horses), downs when asked, going to many verbal cues. Stays out of your space and off you when on a lead. Ties -- Ties and picks without a hitch. Doesn't like to yield her place in the alleyway but will. Arena -- Started lunging and within 1 hour had it almost down. Going both directions though not showing a preference for direction, changes speed on command. Saddled her up and rode her western. Very unsure of herself with a lot of snorting but went everywhere asked. No spooking with dismount. Now that would be about the end of what we would be able to do with her on saddle work as we don't know how to teach leads or leg/saddle cues. Will break very easy. Ups -- Mid-range in the herd. Bound to our TB fairly well. Not aggressive or pushy. Was in season last week+ and not too marish. Clean in her stall not pacey. Downs -- Will be a spooker. Can't sneak up on her in the stall. Likes to shy then look. Nothing fast, no trails yet.

TJ's Master Mak (3yr)
Standardbred gelding Brown with no white markings Sire: Sportsmaster Dam: Sharon Mak. |
Little Tyrone (5yr)
STB gelding at the ASAP farm. Pacer. Poor Tyrone - he seems a bit head shy. He is suspicious of people who approach him until he knows that you are not going to hurt him. Then he will eat right out of your hands. Tyrone was saddled up two weeks ago and put through the "paces" - he was ridden with Western saddle and he did walk, trot, and canter. Tyrone needs a gentle handler who will be patient with him as he learns to bond - it won't take long if you are the right match for him. Please call for more details. UPDATE (7/26): Tyrone was spoken for until yesterday, when his potential adopter decided vet bills on another horse they own are too astronomical to take on another horse at this time. Tyrone is finished - he is responsive to leg cues, walks, trots, and canters, and has great potential as a gaming horse. Shoes on his front feet are best to avoid Tyrone becoming sensitive on gravel. He is friendly and curious and loves to lead out, either alone or with a herd. He is accustomed to traffic, dogs, and kids on trampolines! He is quite a bargain at $595. |
Hideamark
Thoroughbred mare. "Heidi" is about 15'3 hands tall and is a solid bay with a tiny white star. She is a lovely mover, very much a hunter type but would also be suitable for lower level dressage, or eventing. She has the temperament of a Thoroughbred and will require an experienced handler. She is basically a kind horse that likes attention. However, like most Thoroughbreds, she can be flighty. Heidi prefers to live outside, but has been brought into a stall at night recently. She is fine in the stall when other horses are in, but she will spin in her stall , whinny and get upset if other horses are turned out before she is. She can be " herd bound ". Heidi was in professional training from September 2004 though January 2005, when she was started under saddle. She has not been ridden since, due to my lack of time and no indoor arena. She will need to be re-started by someone with experience and patience. Heidi has been very healthy and sound. |
Nice N Deavor (3yr)
STB filly - bay - 15'2 hands. Sound. She is full of energy and still has a lot of "play" left in her - has been chasing dogs and other horses - loves Mighty Mack. She is built more delicately than Mighty Mack. UPDATE (6/6): This mare is full of life. She is seven years old (not three as previously thought) and when she arrived she made no beans about the fact that Mighty Mack was HEr buddy and she would kick the tarnation out of any other horses who got near him. Enough of that - after two days I separated Mighty Mack and Nice and she was upset for about an hour but then settled in nicely with the other mares. Nice needs to go with someone who doesn't mind a bit of attitude, but she is also great to haul, clip, groom. She has not yet started training to saddle. Her beautiful dapples are evident on her bay coat that glistens in the sun. |
Miss Royal
Silver/gray Standardbred mare - in her teens. She was retrained to ride and is gentle. She is being placed back into the program due to her pasture mate being aggressive to her and it is getting progressively worse. Current adopter says this about Miss Royal, "She's been on trails, even camped overnight! She is very level headed on trails, at least while following another horse (I've never had her on trails alone). I haven't cantered on her but she sure does in the pasture. She wouldn't work well for a large person becuase she is a petite gal. She trailers very well and backs right out. The farrier has had pretty good luck with her too. She stood like a statue for the vet and vaccinations." In Viroqua area - call for more information. |
Shay'n Tilly(2yr)
Breeding stock Paint filly. Sorrel with blaze and white sock. Has had some professional training. At ASAP farm. |
Shayz April Wind (2yr)
Breeding stock Paint filly. At ASAP farm. |
Look Della (6yr)
Standardbred bay mare. Average size - good disposition. Oscillits on right front ankle - fine for riding but can no longer race. Look Della made $30,000 - $40,000 and had a lifetime mark of 1:56. She comes from top-notch trainers in the harness racing industry. Every horse we have ever received into our program from Karl and Jenny Williams has been astounding in health and appearance. Currently at Maywood Park - call ASAP for details. UPDATE (2/18): Look Della is race horse slick and beautiful. She is kept inside at night to keep her warm and hopefully she will begin to grow a winter coat as she is turned out a little bit more. She is mannerly in a stall and friendly. She is tall. Every once in awhile we notice a slight soreness in her front fetlock, but once she is turned out the stiffness goes right away. She was diagnosed with oscillits, so this might be a result of this condition. Pictures soon! UPDATE (4/20): This gentle sweet mare is refined in her looks - leggy and fine boned - beautiful head - she would make a great English prospect. She was ridden under Western saddle two weeks ago and is already cantering - well behaved and obedient - not a mean bone in this mare's body - comes right up to you when you approach her and is trusting and kind. Gets along well with other horses with no aggressive tendencies. UPDATE (6/6): Della is such a dear and has a beautiful collected lope (not a gallop!). She gets along well with everyone and is willing. She went through a period of time where she was too attached to Holly and we had trouble tacking Della up and working her due to her separation anxiety. She is much more calm now that Holly has been placed and her only fault under saddle is that she doesn't like to just "hang out" when you are on her back - she is all about business and let's just keep moving down the road - she would look great as an English show horse but goes Western here. Still green but coming along well. |
Painted Nails (7yr)
Bay STB mare with white sox and a big white star- 15.1 hands- beautiful conformation and temperament- tall and leggy- wide set eyes- broke to ride and drive- daughter of Perhaps. Good trail riding horse. |
Picasso (9yr)

Quarter horse gelding. 15'3 hands. Needs intermediate to experienced rider. In Minnesota. For details contact ASAP at asapinc@mwt.net or 608-689-2399. |
Up Periscope (4yr)
STB gelding. Current adopter states, "He has had approx. 3 months training under saddle, but would make a much better driving horse. I have sat on him, but have not ridden, he is so slender and is not a real comfortable seat. He is sound, sweet and intelligent. Peri is SO funny and eager to please! He is the class clown of the pasture. Did I ever tell you how he use to steal my husband's cap off his head, rub it in the dirt and then try to put it back on his head? Our kids use to hit the ground laughing when he would do that. He tries to steal cans out of your hand to drink also. " Located with Max. (Note: photos are approximately one to two years old.) Near Edgerton, WI. |
Max (17yr)
Thoroughbred gelding. Tends to be low in the pecking list. He really does like other horses just won't defend himself much. This horse goes English and Western and has been used as a trail horse primarily for the past three years. He has no bad habits such as bucking or rearing; however, he loves to GO so needs a more experienced rider who would enjoy his energy. He clips - loads - hauls - and very much enjoys attention! Current adopter states, "Max is a typical Thoroughbred, very HOT! He needs an experienced rider. Max is very sweet on the ground too, and acts like a mild mannered old man - until you get him under saddle, then his youth kicks back in." Located with Up Periscope. (Note: photos are approximately one to two years old.) Near Edgerton, WI.

Misty Glo
STB mare. Retired therapy horse. |
Fireset (16yr)

Arabian gelding. Sound, gentle, an extremely well-trained western show horse. Current owner states, "He has taken my daughter to the top ten in State competition the last two years. When he was two years old he was a Canadian National Top Ten Halter Gelding. He is totally rideable, showable. He is getting a little stiff at times, doesn't have as much extension as he once did so may be looking at the beginning of some arthritis down the road. He has lost some weight this winter but is in good flesh still. We are having the vet to check his teeth and have them floated. All shots and worming are up to date. He's extremely pretty under saddle. He is "push-button" on cues, extremely slow trot and collected canter. He is sensitive so wouldn't recommend for a beginner unless with a trainer. He would make an excellent schooling horse for intermediate riders. He ties fine, clips, leads well but can be pushy if he thinks he can get away with it. He loads like a dream... just throw the lead over his back and show him the trailer. Bathes fine but doesn't really like it. He actually likes to be clipped, except for his right ear, which you have to get firm with him about. Loves to be blanketed. Loves grooming. He is very "oral" and mouths things alot. He flaps his lip in bridle if he's nervous. He will chew wood if he's nervous, but he is not a cribber. He doesn't like to cross water, but will do it if you insist. Likes to follow rather than lead. He does have one big weakness.... bugs. He is very thin-skinned and he absolutely, positively cannot withstand mosquitoes and flies. They drive him into a lather. He is allergic to certain flysprays... we've found that he can tolerate Bronco brand. We tried garlic but he won't eat it. He has to wear a fly mask. He's just a really nice old horse... a little quirky but he's a sweetheart. " Please call for details.

Painted Nails
Bay Standardbred mare - broke to ride - paces under saddle - feminine and fancy - well mannered - in Menominee - call ASAP for details. Current foster family reports about Broadway and Painted Nails, " They are a special pair. We don't know much about their recent riding history but they handle very well and stand well for tacking and hoof trimming. We rode them tonight and they seemed to be very well broke and well behaved inside the arena. We had a ten-year-old with no riding experience on Broadway Master. He behaved well and she was even able to direct him away from a pan of grain that we had put our for Painted Nails. We didn't ride Painted Nails as much since the saddle we put on her was a poor fit. Both appear to be beginner safe but should also have tremendous performance potential." |

Ranger
STB gelding. We want to sincerely thank Andrea and Denise for stepping in to help make it possible for us to rescue Ranger from the kill truck this past Saturday (financially). RANGER IS SAVED!! We want to especially thank Terry and Katie for being there for Ranger when we most needed them. Terry spared no time to drive to the Westby area with an ASAP check, his truck and trailer last Saturday. When he arrived, the Amish man had the horse ready to load. He thought he was loading the horse into the kill truck, but then he did a double-take and asked, "Who are you?". Terry explained he had been sent by ASAP and offered the Amish man $300 for Ranger. Ranger stood patiently as the price discussion continued, and the Amish man hesitantly accepted the check and gave Terry the horse. Ranger had not been loaded in years - he had been an Amish family's dream horse - a buggy horse who endured years of traveling along back roads and highways without balking or giving up. The Amish woman described the hard winters in driving snow when Ranger faithfully passed huge snow plows along the roads without flinching, and endured years of being ridden and driven by the numerous children in the family. Now gaunt and forlorn, Ranger was proudly and quietly ready for his final destination. He would have gotten right into the kill truck and I believe in my heart he never would have hesitated if sent through the chutes to meet his death. He is so noble, so gracious, and so proud. He is Ranger - a race horse turned Amish horse who has served courageously and, although worn and tattered, he displays an air of dignity that commands my utmost respect. Now Ranger walked right onto the trailer that would give him his life back - that would reward him for his many days as work horse and performance horse in his younger years. This trailer was not going to meet his almost-certain fate at a kill plant - this trailer was taking him to freedom and love - a fresh start. Literally two minutes after Terry pulled out of the Amish family's driveway on Saturday, the kill truck pulled in, likely very upset that the horse he came to carry away had been snatched from under him. Take that, kill buyer! Terry said that we were lucky that he didn't stop for a sandwich on the way to this farm (he had seriously contemplated it)... I think we were blessed, and so was Ranger. We ran to see Ranger when he arrived and he is thin, wormy, but stands tall and proud. His kind eyes wonder why everyone is staring at him, but continues munching on the all the hay he can gather. He is hungry. He is sooooo hungry. He is also thankful, for the people that responded to help. There are so many I have not answered who called to ask if they could come themselves to rescue Ranger. I thank all of you. We will soon have pictures, but thought you deserved to know how the story ended. Hallelujah!
