Ain't Nothin New (8yr)

STB gelding - bay. 14hh. This compact horse has been ridden but not much in the past year. Healthy and sound. Located in Cashton, WI, with Mocha.
Stormy (18yr)

This horse is from a therapeutic horseback riding program in Solway, MN which is 12 miles west of Bemidji MN. Current owners have this to say about him, "He is an Appaloosa Standard Bred cross he is 16 hand, very sweet, nice to ride, & drive. He is about 18 years old and almost totally blind. One of his eyes is shrunken and the other he has about 15% vision. We have been using him at a riding school and with those with disabilities that are physically able to ride him. He is not registered, as far as I know. He has negative coggins, has a recent vet check, west Nile 3way shot and recently farriered. He trailers fair because of his blindness it takes patience to let him smell and check it out and after a few minutes he usually jumps right in. We have been feeding him grain twice a day and he is looking great. He is always a bit on the lean side. We have mostly netting with barbed wire fencing and lately he has started getting caught, running into things. We really have grown attached to him and would like him to go to a loving home where he can be safe and live out the rest of his life with great care. We have had him for about a year and things have went fine. It took him awhile to get used to everything but when he does he is fine. He rides English on contact, western and he used to be a cart horse. He is great on the trails, beautiful long extended trot, and all gaits are very nice. I would take him myself but unfortunately I am over loaded with my own horses. He is still able to be ridden, driven whatever although I would suggest an intermediate rider because of his blindness. We really hate to give him up but he needs better care than we can provide. His health is great other than being blind."

Secretly Yours
She's a beautiful Dark Bay and really big at 16HH. Has been trained for English riding but can ride western. Previous owner wanted to train herfor dressage but doesn't have time. Stands still for farrier and grooming, current on all shots, and loves the attention. Can have an attitude at times but can't we all?
Miss Uno (10yr)
Appaloosa mare. Her owner tell us this, "She is such a sweet girl and deserves the good life. She is registered with the ApHC. She is about 15 hh and broke to ride. She is bay with a spotted blanket and white blaze on her face. She has the true Appy tail, so her tail is very short and so is her mane, it's easy maintenance but requires some extra work in the summer with all the bugs. I think she would benefit from a fly sheet in the summer. I bought her and a little gelding about six months ago from a man who should be locked up!! They were being used as trail horses and literally being worked to death! I sold the little gelding to an awesome lady who spoils him rotten, but haven't had any luck finding Uno a home. I would love to keep her if I could care for her, but I can't afford to and now I have been called in to duty and have to go to Saudi Arabia for the next 6-12 months. She is currently being boarded in Shakopee, MN. She has a current coggins, strangles, and flu-rhino, but is due for everything else. She is also due for worming. She is just out in the pasture so she gets hay but no grain. Her weight looks pretty good, she could maybe put on a few pounds but not many. She also needs her feet trimmed. Her feet are not in the best shape. She stands well for the vet and farrier as long as they move slow and are patient with her. I ship out on June 17th, so less than a week and a half and I NEED to get her moved by then."

Samba

STB gelding with some arthritis. Contact Susan at asapinc@mwt.net for more information. Update from foster family (6/11/04): "Samba is doing very well considering his former injuries. He does have some arthritis (low ring bone) around the foot that was broken on the race track. He has not yet shown us any signs of limping or pain due to this. He is being ridden regularly by beginner riders and he does a wonderful job. He is very quiet and very calm." Located in Menomonie in Dunn County.
Minnow (3yr)

Note from previous owner: "16.2 hh. She is a 3 year old half thoroughbred and half quarter horse. She was never registered. She has never been broke and I would not recommend her for hard riding. I would think gentle riding would be okay. She is very easy to get along with and a very pretty horse." This mare has a torn vulva but does not suffer from it. Please call ASAP office for more details.
Donna Jean Direct (16yr)

UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (1/7): "Izzy is at my farm near Bemidji, MN and she is doing very well. She is riadeable but doesn't have alot of training. We have not tried to drive her since we have had snow ever since she came here. She is a trotter so could work out well in either western or English riding. She has a very nice disposition and loves attention." UPDATE (4/7):
Izzy is now 6 years old and a real beauty. Izzy has a great personality. She is truly a people horse. She also gets along well in the herd. She has been ridden several times this spring and had a good deal of training before she came to us. She stands about 14 hands 3 and is a beautiful deep red bay. We will head out on some trail rides this week.

Hytailit Mabel (5yrs)

Foaled 5/06/98. Bay. Mare. Star: left hind ankle white higher inside, 15.2 hands. Sore in right front. Owner has scanned and nothing broken. Appears to have calcification in bursa. Mabel is a petite, sweet horse who is gentle. UPDATE (3/17): Mabel was trimmed last week and the farrier remarked she may not have been trimmed for quite some time. This may have led to her soreness. Her foster family also gave her a de-wormer last week.
Pace Invader (2yr)
STB gelding. This big giant two year old will lay his LONG head on your shoulder the minute you arrive. He will actually follow you all over and prevent you from giving any other horse attention if at all possible - he wants it ALL. He was just gelded a few months ago. He is well mannered with the mares and other geldings, but hates Yank and made that clear to Yank a couple of weeks ago. Space Invader has not had any saddle training yet - his ground work just started. He is an easy 16 + hand horse and still growing at this young age. He would do well with one other gelding, or one or more mares.
Family Counsler (14yr)

STB gelding - 16.1hh. Barn name is Sigi. He is a 16.1h, bright bay gelding with two hind socks, pin fire marks along both rear suspensories, a front cuff and the cutest little star on his forehead. He has good ground manners and is not dominant. He loves to play and eat. His gaits are good and his walk and trot are like riding a cloud. Contact ASAP office for more information.
Cape Cruiser (6yr)

Standardbred mare. Small and stocky bay - good to be around - time of 1:57.1 Had surgery to removed chips out of a right knee last year, then returned to race The knee has held up well, but she keeps bleeding through Lasix. She has a great heart for racing, but her body just isn't coping with the speed it needs to get there and win. They raced her in an open bridle - just a great little mare. At the ASAP farm. Call Sue for more details at 608-689-2296 or 608-792-5126. UPDATE (5/12): This six year old mare is small but sweet. She, as well as the others, is eager to see people and is easy to halter and lead. She has natural "smarts" and common sense. She is attached to Sarajevo too, but could survive without her. Cape Cruiser is having her feet trimmed this Friday and was wormed on May 1. Her shiny coat is becoming evident since the worming. She has been ridden twice since arriving here - both times were without incident. She is coming along nicely.
Sarajevo (3yr)

Filly just being referred for placement. She is sound - currently in Illinois but soon to be relocated to Wisconsin - more details to follow.
UPDATE (4/26): She is sound and she should be ready for whatever you want her to do. She had pneumonia. The UofI vet clinic suspects that it might have a small affect on her lung capacity as a race horse. She is well-bred and a pretty 3 year old filly. She is spirited but loving. She has had so much vet work on her that she may be a little shy and cranky until she forgets those unpleasant times. Notice that she has white in her forehead in the shape of the state of Illinois. At the ASAP farm. UPDATE (5/12): This sweet little filly is so attached to Cape Cruiser that it would be incredible if they could be adopted out together. Sarajevo enjoys attention. She walks right up to anyone and is eager to be haltered and led. She can be touched anywhere without objection. She loves people. Last Saturday (May 8) Sarajevo was saddled for the first time. She stood tied to the hitching post without a problem. She is a little uncertain of strange surroundings, but a soft voice is soothing and calming to her and she responds. She is a breathtaking, flawless horse! We will continue to work with her and hope to have her trained to saddle by June 15.
Double Start (21yr)

Thoroughbred mare, well bred, very sweet, ridable, was on the racetrack until age 2, then was used as a broodmare and has been ridden out in the Badlands and on other extended trail rides. The photo is was taken during her last pregnancy. Located north of Milwaukee.

She is easy to handle on the ground and you can drive her, and she is a proven brood mare. Call ASAP for details.
Do the Hustle (18yr)

BLACK STB trotting mare - she has been a broodmare for the past few years. Hustle is loving and gentle - a truly great pet. She had a past front tendon injury - has not been driven for many years. Sire: Noble Hustle Dam: Wildwood Ember. Located in Windsor, IL. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (1/7): Both Hustle and Shatzie are fine. They were both ridden last week we had a really warm day so we saddled them up. Shautzie did very well she turns and stops and didn't seem bothered too much with the ordeal. Hustle was not thrilled; however, she never bucked. After five minutes she was fine. Her rider said with some work he thinks she will do well. Shautzie goes to anyone. Those two are so close it would break my heart to see them separated but I know they will have good homes."
Schatzie Bluegrass (17yr)

STB mare - former pacer. Schatzie has a mark of 1:57 and winnings of $33,000 as a 3 year old. She is sound, and is a loving and gentle pet. Power Glory N (24yr)

STB gelding with a stockier, QH-type build. 15hh. Used by beginners for riding. Never sick a day in his life. He comes with Cortios, and hopefully these two can stay together. Both are healthy, sound, and Power Glory has a nice little canter. Due to age, both may be placed at a much reduced adoption fee. UPDATE FROM CURRENT ADOPTER on both CORTIOS AND POWER GLORY N: "From my research, I've established they have most likely been together since 1990. Fun fact: Glory was born in New Zealand! Right now they are pasture boarded. They are fed an senior grain two times a day and hay. They are very very healthy. They've both had a round of shots in December, as well as floating, sheaths cleaned, adjustments, and feet done. The vet did a thorough check and he couldn't believe how healthy they are! I do give them glucosamine injections once a month, but it's more preventative. It's great for older horses because it keeps the joints feelin great and takes care of minor aches and pains of growing old! :-) I do notice they have been feeling much better than when I first got them, but they've also had tons of attention and truly appreciate it. As for the trail ride, they should be great. I have taken Cortios on a two hour trail ride. He did great. They've also been exercised and ridden on a regular basis for the past four months."
Cortios (21yr)

Cortios is a STB gelding who stands 15'3 hands and is a solid bay. He has been ridden by beginners for the past eight years and is as bomb proof as you will find. He comes with Power Glory N. Both are healthy and sound. They came together, and hopefully can stay together. Due to age, both may be placed at a much reduced adoption fee. UPDATE FROM CURRENT ADOPTER on both CORTIOS AND POWER GLORY N: "From my research, I've established they have most likely been together since 1990. Fun fact: Glory was born in New Zealand! Cinny's Luck Blade
TB gelding. Sound, healthy, affectionate. His only known vice is cribbing. Located in Illinois.
Gameedah Knight (27yr)

(Gammy) is an Arab Mare. Owners rescued her (updated 4/8):
"Gammy has been an absolute angel the entire time I have had her. We picked her up from Northern Minnesota on February 14. Many people told me and my husband we were crazy, but I was compelled to go to her. After we got to the barn where she lived, I was very glad I had not listened to the naysayers. The conditions she was living in were horrendous. She definately deserved a second chance to have a loving (clean) home. We have Gammy on regular hay, although she does prefer a grass hay (less sticky) that is easier to chew due to the fact that her teeth have not been floated in awhile. She does get a senior feed, again she was only being fed cracked corn for ducks by her previous owners so she needed the extra nutritian. I also have her on a joint supplement (MaxFlex) for some stiffness in her left rear leg. The trainer at our barn said she feels that after we run out of MaxFlex she could just go on MSM and her senior feed. The stiffness in her left rear is not a continual issue. Most of the time she is fine. As for vision problems, it appears she has a corneal scar in one eye, but it does not seem to limit her vision much. When she was introduced to her new surroundings she did not move around as an animal with limited vision. My youngest daughter (10) took a lesson on her with our trainer two weeks ago and our trainer has been talking to everyone about Gammy ever since. All the people who watched her lesson were so impressed and could not believe her age. She moves so beautifully and doesn't appear at all to be 27 years old. In fact we have a 21 year old gelding (Paint) and a 19 year old gelding (Thoroughbred) at the barn and you would think they were 7 and 10 years older than her and not the other way around. She rides out real nice on trail rides. We have a 6 year old Quarab and a 10 year old Welsh and together the three horse keep pace wonderfully. When we first rode them together I was thrilled to have three horses that walked, trotted and cantered at the same pace. We didn't have to yell back to the person we were riding with! It was a very unique experience for me. Gammy is great for any level rider in the arena, on the road I would suggest a rider with some experience, only because she is fast. We do ride her in a slow twist corkscrew D ring snaffle only so she stops with the beginner riders but we started out riding her and still do ride her in a plain egg butt for more expereinced riders. " Located in IL. Please call the ASAP office for more details.
Sundown (24yr)

Registered name: Decca Five. Registered palomino quarter horse gelding. He was foaled on April 20, 1971. He has spent the last approximately seven years as an equine therapist at Free S.P.I.R.I.T. Riders, Inc. (FSR) in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The director of this program had this to say about Sundown, "Free S.P.I.R.I.T. Riders is a non-profit organization committed to enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities through safe, therapeutic interaction with horses. Sundown has been retired due to his advancing age and arthritis. We are searching for a retirement home for him. Overall, he is in good health, but is on a complete senior equine feed and a supplement for his arthritis. Like any old-timer, he has his good days (when he trots around like a youngster) and his bad (when he walks with a limp). Because of this, we are looking to place him as either a companion or babysitter. Sundown has a very sweet disposition, and good ground manners. He enjoys being groomed, especially when he is shedding out. He is usually cooperative about having his feet picked, depending on how he is feeling. He also enjoys attention and human contact."
