American Standardbred Adoption Program
TT Ore (14yr)

STB stallion! BLACK - white star on forehead and white hind ankle. Last raced winter 2001. This flashy gentleman is small - between 14-15 hands - he loves carrots and attention. Being a stallion, he does have a voice, but he is well mannered in a stall.
Melvin Skipper
A wonderful wonderful (and big) guy. According to his previous owner, "Melvin needs to be with other animals, he does not like being alone. He loves little children and has shown this on several occasions when friends have stopped over. He won't let them out of his sight and is very gentle around them. In the summer of 2000 Melvin had three months of professional training under saddle, (Western, English and Australian) and was to the point of going over small bridges, going through obstacles and responding well to leg cues. We (the trainer and I) also hooked Mel up to a cart and worked with him in harness. He loves this and responds the best to the cart. He seems to tolerate the saddle and will do anything you ask of him, but he just perks up when harnessed up. I do not own a harness and cart so that was the last time he has been harnessed. After bringing Mel home he was ridden about a dozen times on the weekends, but has not been saddled up since. He will need a little work getting him back into this routine again. Melvin has been a very easy keeper. He is on pasture mainly with minimal grain in summer and adjusted accordingly in the winter months. Hay is given in winter and free choice mineral. In winter he is brought in every night and stays in the barn and is let out during the daytime for exercise, as long as the weather is not too cold or severe. Summer months he does not stay in the barn at night, but has a shed in the pasture he and the steers go in if needed." Please contact ASAP for more details.
Maybe I'm Right (7yr)

This 16'2 hand dark bay gelding is calm and saddle trained. His resume includes being taken to the county fair in 2000 by a 4-H'er. He is gentle and quiet, and loves attention. He is submissive in a herd. He is a replacement due to the fact that he was "eating all the other horse's feed."
Margie's Bunny
Standardbred mare.
LetsGoCarol
Standardbred mare.
Lady (26yr)
A family will love this quiet quarterhorse mare - 14.2 hands - bay with no markings - well broke - clips and loads well - up to date on shots. Call to learn more about this gentle sweetheart.
Barb's Legacy (6yr)

Beautiful almost black Standardbred mare - 15.2 hands - last raced in 2000. Attempts have been made to race her after EPM with no luck. Completely treated and ready for a loving home as companion or driving horse. Located at the ASAP in De Soto.
EF Society and Mercedes

EF Society (out of Ideal Society) is a dark bay STB mare with white on her face. Her baby is stocky, dark dark bay, with a HUGE triangle on her forehead. Her head is so petite and her eyes are wide set!! She is a "looker." I have named this filly Society's Mercy, since it was only mercy that brought her to the program. We will call her Mercedes for a nickname. EF Society is also
broke to ride. EF Society and Mercedes must be placed together. ASAP Farm. UPDATE (8/20): EF Society is a quarter horse looking mare with a stout build and a beautiful head. She has absolutely no signs of moon blindniess as was previously noted on the site - she has had no bouts with moon blindness at the university to our knowledge. Therefore, scratch what we said about this before! If you look at the pictures you will note how healthy Sophie and Mercedes both are - and Mercedes is shedding out to be a black bay like her mom with a beautiful triangle on her forehead and white rear socks! She is stout and will also be quite quarter horse looking. They have had impeccable care and Mercedes is also a very friendly and curious filly.

Please note that this foal, though sure to be a wonderful horse, cannot be registered with the USTA or raced due to placement contract agreements.
Colonel Popcorn (6yr)

"Almost black" STB gelding - Out of Sportsmaster! 15'2 hands - white on face - was green broke when he came into the program in 2000, but now has had some Curt Pate training. Willing and loving - Colonel Popcorn - has lots of spirit in a positive way - needs someone who can appreciate his gorgeous looks and his endurance. In foster care near Viroqua. Update (9/17) : An adoption is currently pending on this horse.
Shine of Hollywood (9yr)

Standardbred gelding. Last raced October 2001 - Shine sustained a hock fracture in December and needs seven months off before training to saddle. He should be ready to ride in July!!! He is a dark bay with white on his face - described as average (medium) build and size. He is getting tired of the stall - kicks stall walls - this behavior should go away once he has the chance to be turned out. UPDATE: Now being saddle-trained!
Two Miniature Donkeys
Look similar to a Sicilian donkey - rescued from the kill pen at a sale in northern Wisconsin.

Jeb - the littler guy of the two (stands 37 inches) - he is fat and quiet - has one ripped ear from a previous injury from long ago - submissive and makes you just want to squeeze him tight. Although he is still "intact" he does not act like a jack - very very adoptable!

Jeremiah
- how appropriate a name for this loud little guy! The Old Testament prophet didn't know when to stop, and neither does Jeremiah. When he sees us or wants something it's "hee haw" til he gets it!!! He is pushy with the big sanctuary horses and usually gets his way. He is also in love with Tilly, who we had to move to prevent further donkeys from coming into this world! He is also intact - a big "package" may indicate he is older than five!
UPDATE (9/17): These little guys will be available for adoption again soon.
Bobi (8yr)

(Picture taken 8/10/02)
Saved from the slaughter truck - an eight year old BELGIAN gelding - he's very gentle. This large blonde gelding was bought by a man in his 80's two years ago from the Amish. The horse has never gained weight - he is thin beyond imagination - though he has never been neglected or abused during the past two years. His teeth have been checked and are all right. He has been wormed. His conditon has stayed the same - he is thin - but he is in need of antibiotics and bute to treat a foot abcess. Please contact Susan via e-mail at asapinc@mwt.net if you can help us save this young horse, or phone 608-637-8045. Must have an application on file in order to qualify to adopt this draft horse. UPDATE: Thanks to Kellie F. who brought Bobi a brand new draft-horse-size halter yesterday - and it is purple! He is quite the stunning boy. On Sunday, June 2, Bob looked sore all over again. Instead of only being sore on the left front, he seemed like he just ached all over, although he is not laying down as much as he did last week. I wonder if 3 grams of bute daily is really enough for this 20+ hand gelding. Any thoughts? After investigating ringbone, tendonitis, and laminitis and ruling them out, we are beginning to wonder if Bob doesn't have Lyme's Disease. I am consulting with the vet this week, who will be down to do a "once over". We may decide to just go ahead and start him on penicillin to see if it helps him. He remains sweet and loveable and a big "lap" horse! UPDATE (7/1): Bob is gaining weight on his feeding schedule. He is fed free-choice hay around the clock and gets feed twice a day. Right now he is eating about six large coffee cans per day of complete feed (Profile) , cracked corn, ant Nutrena mix. I need to deworm him - I think he will need two dworming pastes! He does not lie down hardly at all any more, but that is because of the consistent use of NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory medication) - and he is on a low dose of 3 bute pills per day which I crush and put in his feed. Someone who just stopped by today to see him after not seeing him for two weeks noted a remarkable improvement. We are waiting for someone to adopt him! UPDATE (7/12): I wanted to clarify that Bob is gaining weight steadily on a diet of free choice hay and, so far, two coffee cans three times daily of mixed feed (we have been adjusting his feed according to his needs with the feeds I previously mentioned). He does not have Cushings and we have ruled out ESPM, but do know that he needs his NSAIDS every day (bute or aspirin) in order to have a good freedom of movement. He does not lie down hardly at all at this point - maybe on occasion I will come out at night and he will be lying down resting and munching on hay but he gets right up. So, he is ready for adoption to anyone willing to keep him going until he heals, or the worst scenario - keeping him feeling good through use of anti-inflammatory medications.

UPDATE (10/5): Bob arrived at his new home in Pennsylvania early on Saturday morning. Craig opened the trailer door and out Bob jumped, not one bit sore from his long ride!!! He spotted the other two Belgians out in a large pasture and was immediately drawn to them. Try as Craig might, he couldn't hold on to the leadrope and Bob dragged him towards the pasture. Everyone giggled. Lori and her husband from ADHF who adopted Bob could not get over how TALL he is!!! He towered above their two other Belgians. Bob ran, kicked, ran, sniffed noses, turned and kicked at the other Belgians, ran some more, then got down and rolled and rolled and rolled. It is touching to know that God cared enough about this horse to save him from the rendering truck, let him recover with us, and then find him a home several hundred miles away with a loving family on a gorgeous farm. How much more does HE care for us? Good luck, Bob, and we hope to get some digital pictures to share with all of you soon!
Niatrick (14yr)

STB gelding - at the ASAP Farm. This horse, out of Niatross, is 17+ hands high! He last raced four years ago. He is loved and pampered by his present owners, who want to be sure he gets the right home. Should be suitable for light riding - saddle broke. Niatrick was a schooling horse - he is very intelligent, affectionate, and nice to workaround in the barn and paddock. UPDATE (7/1): He is a glistening black bay. He just had his feet trimmed June 26 and the volunteers who come out fall in love with him! He has been ridden by two people so far and has been a trooper in the arena. He has lots of energy despite his swollen fetlock. This should not be problematic for Niatrick as long as he is allowed the proper rest - he was sore on it one day since coming to the ASAP farm but recovered nicely and has not been sore since. He does not come up sore after riding. UPDATE (8/10): "Tricky," as he is known by the volunteers at the ASAP farm, is extremely sweet and gentle and has been ridden several times with no problems. UPDATE (8/20): Niatrick is gaining popularity as a riding horse around these parts. No matter who comes and from where, or how little or much experience people have, anyone can ride Niatrick. Last Saturday he was in the arena giving people rides and going through cones and obstacles. He will be a great riding horse for someone despite a slightly enlarged fetlock in the front. If you are looking for a loving horse that just wants to come in the house with you at night, you are missing out by not coming to see Niatrick! He is truly something special.
Bnd's Best (7yr)

Standardbred - black, 16.2 hands, gentle, loving, trained for riding. Current on all shots, worming, hoof trimming. According to his previous owner, he does have a right hip problem that prevents him from hard riding (fine for light or medium riding). She says, "I have had a chiropractor adjust him, many vet checks and several VOM treatments to see if his hip problem could be helped. According to my vet, he is not in pain .... He truly is a great horse and it is very hard to make this decision [placing him in the program], but he isn't getting the attention he deserves."
Oracle (2yr)

Oracle is a 2yr old black and white tobiano, 1/2 TB, 1/4 QH, 1/4?, he may be 14.3h as he had a rough start he may not make his full potential but he is really doing a great time catching up. Nice western pleasure gaits and head carriage. Like Cavalier, he is perfectly sound and in really nice condition, has excellent ground manners and is great around kids. According to previous owner, all the groundwork has been done, both lunge and drive with saddle and snaffle bridle. He has been worked around by children, gone to shows and trailers nicely. He also received 2nd place in his halter class at the last show. Now at ASAP farm!
Broadway Extinguish (7yr)

Bay roan STB - a sweet gentleman of a horse - out of Broadway Express - broke to ride - easy to handle - from the Maywood tracks. Contact ASAP for more information on this stunning Standardbred! Now at ASAP farm.
Gentle Ben (5yr)

STB - dark bay - around 15.2 hh. Walks, trots, and canters under saddle. Wonderfully broke to ride. Can be dominant with some horses. Originally rescued in 2001 from a feedlot in Cannon Falls. Currently at foster farm in MN. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (8/7): Gentle Ben was shown at a fun show last Thursday by a 13 year old girl. He did great for it being only the third time he has been ridden this year. Trailered like nobody's business. At 10:30 at night walked right into the trailer when the others were being pills. Ben did barrels, poles, key hole and poles and jumping figure eight. Needs some work on reining but with time that will come. She was able to stop him no problem. I rode him in the ribbon race and he has a wonderful gallop. It is like being in a rocking chair - very smooth.
Skipalong Jake (6yr)

Available for adoption in Minnesota. Gelding - between 15.3 and 16 hands - trained for saddle. Timid when first put in a new environment, but adjusts well, as seen in the picture. Call ASAP for more details.
Perhaps (23yr)
Dark bay mare with white on her face - She is 15 hands and build very petite. She is a quiet mare and although oldershe is sound and looks like she is only 10 years old. She is saddle-trained - needs a home where people can show her the trails and get her used to things such as cattle, creeks, and other nfamiliar things she hasn't been exposed to before. She has been a brood mare for the past few years, but raced before that. She is now stabled near La Crosse.
Lucky (1yr)

Sorrel pinto gelding pony; 13.1 hands; This pony, at 1 ½ years of age, is quite a character! He is the first one at the fence, and loves to make friends with the new horses coming into the program. He is often seen playing and frolicking with the standardbreds. He is going to be an awesome kid's pony. He loves people and children, and is Mr. Curious. When we were building the three sided shelter he was always over sniffing the carpenters' pockets and dumping out the bags of nails! He would be a wonderful addition to your family during this holiday season. Meet him at the ASAP farm. UPDATE: Now being trained: Lucky the pony is roadsafe now. A 12 year old boy can ride him and he is fine. When a younger boy gets on he will try and head into different driveways, etc. ...so the reining part is still in session but he should be ready to adopt very soon.
Lead Me On (9yr)
Bay gelding - 16 hand Standardbred pacer last raced September 2001. Sore right ankle forces retirement. "Leader" is a real pet - owners very emotionally invested in him, and seek a home where he can be used as a pleasure riding horse. He has had a saddle on and has been ridden - still somewhat green to saddle. His temperament makes him a jewel - very easy going. "Leader" has major osteoarthritis in the right fetlock, lots of calcification. Owners had him on bute but he can't continue forever on this medication. We've been massaging and wrapping his leg daily and he's doing better on stall rest. UPDATE: Now being saddle-trained!
Man Maid (3yr)

SOUND Standardbred gelding - tall - good conformation - a gorgeous black bay. Not fast enough to compete well at the tracks at Maywood. Wow, this horse is something to see! ASAP farm.
Nuke There It Is (8yr)

Stunning almost black gelding; raced in Michigan; saddle trained; beautiful. He's an easy keeper with beautiful gaits and self carriage. He is learning to bend on long lines and lunging. He is a beautiful 16hh. gelding. The info from the USTA is that he made over a 100,000 dollars. Note from previous owner: He is getting easier to catch out in pasture and is getting better but you need patience to get him - been working with him on haltering. He is great for the farrier and is very friendly to everyone when in the stall or crossties. Out in pasture he would rather stay away from everyone. He has given me no problems with his temperment towards my mare he does like to eat wood - NOT crib. His chewing on wood can
be altered with a little bit of mineral supplement.
Motor (21yr)

Thoroughbred chestnut - gelding - trim and handsome - acts much younger than he is. Motor has fooled several visitors who never would have guessed how old he is by the way he acts and looks - age is a state of mind, I guess! He has been spirited with certain other horses (Indy) at the ASAP farm - but he's adjusting to his new surroundings. Needs someone to give him a chance. Special adoption fee: $200. UPDATE (7/1): Motor ended up getting a nasty infection in his rear leg after jumping our fences a couple of weeks ago. We have had him on penicillin shots and have been hosing his leg down daily. He gets Nitrofurazone ointment applied to the abscess and scratch and just yesterday his leg swelling went down after the wound opened and began draining, which was good news. He was just wormed with Panacur paste on June 30. He is getting about eight pounds of Complete feed (Profile) each day and free choice hay. It would be nice to see him get out on some lush green pasture!
Addi's Darlin

Darlin is a very beautiful bay Thoroughbred mare, fine boned and has beautiful gaits. About 15.2 hands. She is well trained and gentle. Easy to catch, loads well. She has some arthritis on front knee, but has had a cortizone injection recently and it seems to have it under control. Very healthy horse, kind eye and great ground manners. She comes with a neg coggins and has had her spring shots. Very nice horse for someone who wants to ride at a slower pace due to the arthritis, although she isn't looking too slow out in the pastures! UPDATE (7/1): This small TB mare is just waiting for the right home. She is gentle, sweet, and quiet. She is well trained for riding, and in her former adoptive home she was the boss over Expo but did not like Expo and HATED cows! She spent all day stressing over the cows on the other side of the fence, pinning her ears back, and charging them. She spent more time than ever cribbing, and she does crib even now in the paddock on a pine tree branch. (She has a cribbing collar but ASAP does not have it as it was sent to a foster home in another part of Wisconsin.) She has a small bump on her knee from her former racing days but it does not appear to affect her performance in the pasture or while being ridden. She desperately needs a young girl who wants to love her and ride!
Peanut (3yr)

(Description from the owner who placed Peanut in the program) When I first saw this guy, I didn't know how he would make it. He was a total mess. Absolutely starved almost to death. I thought he was only a yearling or maybe a short 2-year old but he's actually three or maybe 4 (probably 3). He is gelded, current on all shots, feet are good. Likes attention but is a little shy. Won't take much for him to be a real love. Halter broke only but will stand tied for hours. Slightly built but that might be because of poor nutrition when he was young. Now at ASAP farm. Come see this miniature! UPDATE (7/1): This little guy (38 inches!) has stolen my heart and the heart of my children. He is kept staked out on our lawn to graze, since we fear turning him out with the big horses. One kick from a regular size equine and this little guy may have broken bones! He is gaining weight on the green grass and was just given a Panacur paste on July 1. He gets a "wild" streak every once in awhile and takes off running and bucking! He loves women and children especially.
Gambling Ranger (10yr)

A.k.a. "Gabe" - Appendix Quarter Horse gelding - sorrel - 16.3 hands - two front white socks and blaze! Former race horse (as a two year old) out of Raise Your Glass (Northern Dancer) and Top Moon - Needs shade when bugs are bad - dark barn is best - Sound - needs experienced rider - does not buck, etc. but has lots of positive energy. No grain, please - currently on Omega 3 - needs saddle with wide tree for best fit. Gabe has had all shots, and calendar year coggins. He responds well to voice commands, longes well, responds well to leg cues - Now at ASAP Farm. UPDATE (7/1): Gabe - What can I say about Gabriel (named after the angel!) ... Despite his "headstrong" attitude when I first loaded him, Gabe is really a big baby - he is all of his 16'3 hands and is not afraid of anything! He loves people and attention - he is chums with T-Bone at this point, which puts him in the middle of the pecking order here at ASAP. He has a couple of nicks from challenging Janimal, but Janny won the challenge and Gabe has resigned himself to it. Gabe has been consistently handled and needs a firm but loving hand when he tries to push his weight around. He will be ridden this week and we will report how it goes. His loving former owner has him up to date on all shots (as well as West Nile) and deworming. He is in incredible conditon - from hooves to tail to ears - has had impeccable care.
Master Kut (6yr)

STB gelding - former pacer. This gelding last raced at Balmoral last July, and is recuperating from a bowed left front tendon. He is medium sized and has a medium build but is stocky. He is a brown with one white foot. Master Cut is obedient but has lots of spirit and is nervous the first day after a transition or move. Master Kut has a bowed front left tendon and he will be on two to three months stall rest while he recovers. UPDATE: Master seems fully recovered!!
Native Gold (16yr)

Thoroughbred gelding - ex-racehorse. Flea-bitten gray. 14.3 hands. Available at ASAP farm. Email or call for details.
Benny

He's not afraid of people but is shy. Will walk off when you go to catch him. Wants so badly to trust but not sure. Not a mean bone in his body towards people but can be very mouthy (a jack trait I guess) towards other ponies. He's in a pen by himself since he's not gelded. Leads okay when you get him going and then doesn't want to go back into his pen. He yearns for attention but isn't quite sure what to do when you give it to him. His feet are much better than when we got him but they're still a work in progress. He was also missing hair on various body parts and he's got a very thick neck so he wasn't fed correctly in his previous life.
Rapid Attack (4yr)
In Michigan! STB gelding - 15 hands high - stocky with a quarter horse build. Rapid Attack has no serious injuries - is retiring sound. He is CHESTNUT with a WHITE FLAXEN MANE AND TAIL! Star on head. He is fine with other horses, tends to be dominant in a herd at times - he hauls well and has great ground manners. Has already had some ground work with a saddle on. Call ASAP for contact in Michigan.
Explosive MS (11yr)
Bay Standardbred mare out of Ideal Society and Pepper Lobell. She is 14.3 hands and petite - calm and gentle. Arabian type head MS has been ridden for the past three years and is ready for placement with you. She is sometimes hard to catch in a pasture but once you have her in the barn or tied she absolutely loves being groomed and doted on. Give ASAP a call.
CloJo (9yr)
"Cloie" is a bay Standardbred mare - 16 hands tall - and is being returned to the program after being with her adopter for several years. She has been ridden for years and has produced two foals since 1996 - she is currently in northern Wisconsin and we would like to see her placed out of northern Wiscoinsin if possible. Call the ASAP office for details.
Pilgrim (6yr)
Standardbred gelding - dark bay, almost black. He is a gentle giant at 16hh tall. He is very sweet, and likes attention. He can be dominant in a herd, and likes to be with the other horses. He is broke to ride, but does not canter undersaddle. Currently located in northwestern Wisconsin, and will be placed out of that area. *"re-adopted"
Nonobadfilly (5yr)

Sleek STB mare - black with no white - a petite 14.2 hands - "Filly" is curious and bold - walks right up in the pasture - loves her grain! She is race-horse slick. She has a beautiful head and bright eyes. She does not like a stall, and prefers to be out in pasture. Herds well. Sweet as can be! Trained for harness - not yet trained for saddle -but easy to work with ASAP farm. UPDATE: This mare is being returned to the program - was used for driving but had some interfering with a front and left leg which won't make her suitable to drive at high speeds despite shoeing. Fine for riding. ASAP farm.
Lily (12yr)

Purchased from a sale barn in October. Broke for anybody to ride. (Well, when you look at her "before" picture, you'll understand why.) She's about 44 inches tall. She is now much better and her feet are all but normal looking now. Compared to my other ponies, I would consider her a little bit harder to keep up than the rest of the runts. I bring her in in the mornings and give her a little extra hay and a little grain. She seems to do well that way. She is current on all shots including west nile. I have clipped her bridle path and messed with her some. She ties fine, leads fine, feet are fine, and seems to understand lunging. I haven't ridden her because I'm too big. Walks off a little when trying to catch her but not bad especially if she knows she's got food coming. Very dominant mare. Absolutely rules the roost here. I think if there was a young girl who wanted a pony to play with that Lily would blossom under her love. Lily is not an in-your-face type pony, but she's a nice girl. I think she's just been unappreciated for a long time.
Indy (5yr)

STB Bay Gelding - dark bay - click here to read Indy's ongoing story (last updated on 6/3). (Also read about him in the farm updates.) This horse suffered a racing injury last fall and has been in the care of a foster farm. We are looking for a new home for Indy. This horse deserves the best! Contact the ASAP farm for more information. UPDATE ON INDY: Indy is now at ASAP farm. He is gaining weight and was recently dewormed again. The farrier came out and pulled his shoes and Indy tried so hard to stand on that bad leg while they pulled the other shoe but just couldn't do it. He continues his regiment of medication and receives Weight Builder supplement along with Red Cell, Absorbine Magnesium Calcium supplement, bute, antibiotics, and DMSO. He is in love with Asha and Precious KC! He cannot seem to decide on which mare he loves more (they both have their special qualities!). I often put one or the other mare in his paddock/stall with him at night for social time. He comes out every day to graze on the lawn. He must be feeling better, since Saturday my husband came in the house and was very upset with me because Indy was down the road at the neighbors'! This will be a long road to recovery ... but he will make it!
Falcon Scooter (8yr)
Here is a giant boy, 16 plus hands of stocky bay quality Standardbred blood - a racing champion who earned lifetime totals that would beat a lot of the STB's we have ever placed. Scooter is naturally curious - more dog than horse on the ground. He tends to be overly dominant in a herd - and can be aggressive. No real pattern to how this behavior is exhibited - has happened with certain mares or certain geldings. Scooter has been ridden by novices as well as trained riders. Get your ladder out! UPDATE: Scooter is coming back into the program - dominant in a herd of horses - affectionate and easy to handle on the ground. Currently in Eau Claire area - call for directions to view.
Cash (5yr)

American Quarter Horse - Gelding - 15.1 hands, bay in color with white nose and strip. Sire: Beau's My Daddy. This gelding is beautiful, loves people and other horses. This horse is broke to ride, but his stride makes him more well suited as an English prospect (I am sure Western would be just fine). He wears shoes due to white hooves - this horse has a current coggins. UPDATE ON CASH: Cash has just arrived at the ASAP Farm and he really is beautiful!
Speedy Debutante (24yr)

STB brood mare - she last raced out east many years ago. She is out of Speedy Somali - has had five foals. Speedy has a beautiful face, is quiet - standing at 15.2 hands - she's bay and a bit stocky. She has good clean legs and is an easy keeper. Don't let her age discourage you - my husband's horse is 26 this year and is still competing in PRCA rodeos!!! Please phone the ASAP office. ASAP farm.
Flaunting It (19yr)

Standardbred mare out of Ideal Society. Sound. Please contact ASAP office for more details on this beautiful horse. UPDATE: Flaunting It has returned from saddle training and she is ready for adoption! Please note: she handles very well but needs an experienced rider because she has kicked.
Bold Egyptian (4yr)

Standardbred gelding - bay - sleek and friendly. Nice head and bright eyes. Bold Egyptian has the temperament of a baby - follows you around in the paddock and loves to snuggle. Very submissive in a herd. He is about 15'2 hands - a little on the thin side but gaining weight on free-choice hay. Loves attention and will be easy to convert to saddle. Currently trained for harness and has been saddle-trained after he was placed in the program. He is so gentle and so sweet. I really could see a teenage gal bonding with him, making him a great pleasure horse. ASAP farm. UPDATE: Bold Egyptian is now getting additional training at a foster farm.
Piranah (18yr)
Thoroughbred gelding - 16.2 hands tall - dark bay. Piranah is good on trails - kids take him out but he would not be a suitable beginner's horse. He is not a cuddler, but loves doing flat work and is a jumper. He is good in a herd and is neither dominant or totally submissive. He is sound. Call Sue or Bonnie or e-mail Sue for more details. This Thoroughbred is in pretty good condition now, and ready to be adopted thanks to Patty Mirsky's TLC and green pasture being provided by an adopter on the ridge close to our home.
Acea (8yr)

She is a 17h STB with a bowed right front tendon and injured suspensory ligament. Breeding or lower levels dressage practice horse only whenever she is sound only. Almost showable at training level dressage (last informal test score was "about 70%" she is capable of much better); schooling second level gymnastics.
TarPort Ramey (19yr)

Ramey was born with unlimited potential, then as a foal had an eye kicked out of its socket. The eye had to be removed, but this didn't stop Ramey. He grew up to be a racing champion, earning over $250,000 (or near that amount). He is a tall giant. At the track in Chicago they used to call him the Dinosaur - and if you see him from one side there is just a face with no eye, and actually fur where the eye used to be. He has been placed for the past few years with a family in Iowa, and unfortunately now, due to a family problems, Ramey is coming back to the ASAP farm. He is saddle trained - about 17 hands, and bay. His heart is big and he loves children. He is ridden Western on trails. We need a companion home or home where he will be appreciated for who he is and who he has been in the past. Although his legs look like he's raced a lot (crooked and arthritic), he is overall sound and would make someone a great riding horse. Ramey will be more difficult place due to his multiple disabilities. He needs financial support to help provide for his everyday care.
Regal Talent (9yr)
Standardbred mare out of Storm Damage. Sound. "Regal" is in very good shape. We sent her for saddle training yesterday. Loads easy, handles fine once you catch her. The trick is to let her come to you ... if you go into the pasture and look like you want her, she'll walk away. But if you pretend you're not interested in her, she'll come to you. She's a character.
ASAP farm.
Max (16yr)

Thoroughbred Gelding. Very sweet and submissive. Tends to be low in the pecking list. He really does like other horses just won't defend himself much. He has a current Coggins certificate and he has recently had his feet trimmed. He's also been wormed and has just received his yearly shots.
UPDATE: Max has arrived at the ASAP farm! This horse goes English and Western and has been used as a trail horse primiarily for the past three years. He has no bad habits such as bucking or rearing; however, he loves to GO so needs a more experienced rider who would enjoy his energy. He clips - loads - hauls - and very much enjoys attention!
Silver Shadow (15yr)
Dark bay gelding - 15 hands tall - Beautiful conformation and nice head with wide set eyes. Shadow can be hard to catch in the pasture. Call ASAP for more details. $450.
Up Periscope (2yr)

Here's a guy with unlimited potential - placed by a well-respected Wisconsin harness horse owner and trainer, this gelded colt is big, bay, and ready for re-training in any capacity. Sweet-tempered, curious and friendly. Perry loves attention, gets along well with other horses. Doesn't like dogs in his pasture. Still has some growing to do and will be a big boy when he is fully grown. He should be VERY easy to train. In foster care at Sunburst farm
Natalina (14yr)

Black STB mare - 15.3 hands - last raced over 10 years ago. Natalina has a white star and white sock - she is stout - nice to work around - wonderful temperament. Kids rider her and walk her around the paddocks - women also ride her. She jogs real nice under harness - and has a nice soft mouth and is very responsive to the bit. This mare suffered a broken coffin bone at age 3, but raced after it healed - she has been turned out having babies for the past few years. Where is she? Whitmore Lake, Michigan - waiting for interstate health papers - please call the ASAP office if you have been approved to adopt to see her before she is shipped to Wisconsin. Expect her at the ASAP farm in mid April.
Sans Marie (4yr)

STB mare available for adoption in Tennessee. Pelvic injury two years ago during training stopped her career in its tracks. She is sound enough for training under saddle thanks to her adopter, Fran. Fran would like to find a new home for Sans Marie now. Interested persons call the ASAP office or e-mail Susan.
Snafu's Choice (13yr)

Bay Standardbred mare - 16 hands. When Snafu arrived I darted outside to take her lead rope. She came out of the trailer nice-as-you-please, then stood and stared at our wolf-dog. He always greets the newcomers! She was unflappable. We turned around and she spotted some grass sticking up out of the blacktop and went over to munch on it, not a bit jumpy. We then proceeded towards our little barn and we stopped to sniff noses with Tar Port Ramey and the others on the ASAP "welcoming committee." Again, no shrieking, striking, or other mare-ish behavior. We have been told that she will, at times, pin back her ears when people approach. She has not ever become aggressive towards people since her arrival. She has to be one of the most strikingly beautiful mares ever brought in to the ASAP farm, with a mahogany bay color and large white star which gives her character. She has a round, fleshy hip and an arched neck when trotting. She is breathtaking, and her age makes her a horse that would not be afraid of traffic, dogs, etc. ASAP farm.

Update on Snafu:
Snafu's Choice is not a friendly mare. Although she does not run from people in pasture, she pins her ears when approached by anyone. If you attempt to pet her on the side she may try to bite. She has attempted to kick one person and is somewhat unpredictable in her moods. I need to find a loving home for her with someone who will give her a chance to bond - I think she can be worked with. She is fine once caught - is well mannered in a stall and ties and trailers well. We are only asking reimbursement for hauling expenses to the right family. Plese let me know if that is you!!!
Geri's Halo (5yr)

The star of the ASAP benefit clinic! She is 14+ hand mare - perfectly sound - and started by Tracy Porter (a John Lyons certified trainer) herself on December 29th, 2001! She's very petite and spunky, and will make a good driving or riding horse, but she needs further training under saddle. She's cute as a doll -- you should see her! In foster care at Amos Acres in Whitewater, WI. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: Halo is extremely friendly, but she's the teensiest little Standardbred I've ever seen. She's very willing to please, stands perfectly still while grooming, has great stall manners, leads well, loads in the trailer well, is not dominant in a herd, and so she really needs to be where she won't get pushed around too much. Has a pretty mane and tail and at a perfect weight. She appears to be totally sound, and has enough spunk running around in the paddocks to see that she's going to be a great mover. It would be great for people to come and look at her here. She's doing well here, and I think she'll make someone a super horse for a long time. Especially suited for a small-statured person with enough riding experience to train her. I can completely see this horse being a teenage girl's best friend.
Red River Bandit (20yr)

Appaloosa gelding - 16 hands - a red roan with black legs and a white blanket - what a sweet guy! Bandit was owned by the same gal for 15 years - she has owned him since she was 10 years old. They showed together and jumped competitively. This sturdy horse is easy to handle - great to load - mannerly in a stall - and needs a home where he can be tucked in every night with a blanket on cold evenings. Bandit is arthritic in his hocks, so although he cannot be used for any hard riding, he would be suitable for a lighter adult or child. He is trained English and Western and goes just fine in a snaffle bit. Bandit has been with the same owner since he was five, and he is now 21. It has been a difficult farewell for his former owner, and she and ASAP would love to see him go to a farm with a cozy stall and pampered for the rest of his days. His eyes and teeth are very healthy - anticipate a long life with Bandit with the proper care. Give the ASAP farm a visit! All health records included - teeth are in great shape - eyes are bright. ASAP farm.
Gate Alert (10yr)

STB mare - sound - in excellent health. Not yet saddle trained, this bay is out of Albatross! She is 15'2 hands high and big and stocky. She is easy to handle, and has been a brood mare up until the year 2000. She is unable to "take" and is believed to be barren. Remember, this mare is totally SOUND! ASAP farm.
Macaroni (8yr)
ROAN pony -- has been a schooling horse - used for jumping - we have no size details on Mac but know he is a gelding and is in Illinois (in the Barrington area). He is difficult to catch in pasture - call ASAP to see him in Illinois before mid April if you are approved.
Grab Your Assets (4yr)
STB bay gelding - currently in Indiana. This little guy is 14.3 hands and is coming to us from an extremely credible and influential owner/breeder/trainer. We always get beautiful horses from these people, so would expect the same from the Grab boy. He has a star and two white ankles - beautiful head and eye - and a Quarter horse look. No vices, he is really gentle - he is a people horse and nuzzles with everyone. Owner believes he would be a fantastic 4-H horse. This horse is totally sound, just not fast enough. If you are in Indiana or Illinois, call me if you are approved to view. Otherwise, wait to see him at the ASAP farm in late April!
On the Other Hand Lou (4yr)

STB gelding - a pacer! 16 hand bay - lean. Trainer describes Lou as a "Damn good horse". He had a few bad "starts" while racing and doesn't have the heart - sound but not a race horse. Farrier found an old very large abscess in his left front so we think that is probably why he didn't want to race and was slow. Don't bring a two horse trailer to pick him up once adopted - he will "rock" a two horse to death, so needs a roomy stock or slant-load trailer to lessen his anxiety. Otherwise quiet and obedient - Nice personality, tall guy.
B A Major Upset (6yr)
6 year old STB gelding - Sportsmaster colt out of dam Be Foolish - this great gelding - 15 hands tall and bay - set a mark of 1:51 and has lifetime earnings of $120,000!!!!! He will be arriving at the ASAP farm after Easter - can be seen in Chicagoland suburbs - call for directions and contact number if you are approved to adopt. Nice, easy going temperament - willing to please - clips loads hauls like a dream.
Proudest Guy (7yr)
STB gelding - 16+ hands, ridden and driven. Guy has been in the program a couple of years.
Sancho Panchez (4yr)
STB gelding - average size and build - arrived today -he's absolutely gorgeous! Please call for details.
Falcon Quest (6yr)

You will not believe the beauty of this horse--this picture does not capture it! A 14 hand STB gelding, he could easily be mistaken for a Morab or Morgan. He is small, with an arched neck and fine boned legs. Bay, with no white markings. Falcon Quest earned tens of thousands of dollars and finally a sesamoid fracture ended his racing career. He is on 45 more days of stall rest as of 12/14/01 - may be able to handle a small turnout. Quest nuzzles in the crook of your arm and loves to be handled and pampered. Please see him at the ASAP farm. He is going to make someone an outstanding pet, companion, soul mate!!! Broke to drive, my bet is that he will be very easy to convert to saddle. ASAP farm.
