American Standardbred Adoption Program
BG Star (3yr)

Sweet Standardbred mare standing at 16+ hands! Bay trotter - harness trained but developed ulcers so never raced - Please call the ASAP office to get more details. UPDATE (10/5): Craig trailered BG Star home from Indiana on Saturday. Arrived at the ASAP farm early Sunday morning. BG was a real lady in her stall for the night, and in the morning was turned out to meet Mocha, Table Nonsense, Fox Valley Deon, and OG Northview. She fell madly in love with OG (what can I say? He is very HANDSOME!). She acclimated well to the wire fences and found the shelter and round bales. She was timid about coming up to me at feeding time in the afternoon, but learned quickly that what I had was great stuff. She is submissive so far in the herd. She is very stocky, extremely well cared for, and has the most beautiful face and wide set eyes on that gorgeous head of hers! She can canter readily and easily in the paddock - will make someone a great pet and riding horse . She does have a pigeon-toed stance in front - corrective shoeing did not cure her for racing. They did attempt to train her to race, with no luck due to her conformation. Be sure and stop to see this sweetheart!
Fox Valley Wuvbug (10yr)

Bug is returning to the program. He is a STB gelding, black bay with 4 with stockings, and a white star on his forehead. He is about 15.2 hands high. He has a friendly temperament and is very inquisitive. He does try to nip at you occasionally and likes to stand in his stall and rub his backside on the wall. Bug has not been ridden in the last 2 years. Update (2/03): His foster family reports that he is on the thin side. They've wormed him and have been giving him lots of love. Although he has halter marks from having a halter on for a long time, it didn't cut into his skin. His coat is long and shaggy right now, but Bug is still a nice catch for someone who wants to spend quality time with a friendly STB who will, most likely, be ready for fun this summer. Update (2/13): Bug is now at the ASAP farm! Thanks to Kathleen De Master for the great pictures!
Sharp's Sister "Whinney" (22yr)
STB mare. Returning to the program after many years as a wonderful family pet and trail horse. Whinney is very trusting and a great horse.
Lord Willing (13yr)

Chestnut STB stallion. Last raced in Canada three years ago. Trained to saddle and very well mannered. He will be relocated to Perfecta Farms in Plymouth, Michigan within a week. Please call ASAP office for more details. UPDATE (10/1): Lord Willing's foster family went for a ride this weekend and are in love with this horse--"What a dream come true! Elegance and grace in motion!" UPDATE (2/03): Lord Willing is now in Michigan.
Ghostie (17yr)
Gray Appendix mare. 16 hh.Ghostie was used for dressage until diagnosed with Navicular. She's undergoing treatment but cannot be used for showing. She is a very mild-mannered girl, and is at the bottom of the herd ranking. Ghostie is located in De Pere, Wisconsin. Call the ASAP office for more details.
Mr. Foster (25yr)
Quarter horse/Saddlebred cross gelding. Five gaited - 15 hands. Mr. Foster is broke to ride, healthy and in good shape. He hasn't been ridden in some time, however, and will need a patient rider who is willing to spend the time getting him used to the saddle again. Located in Franksville, WI, with Crafty Lady.
Crafty Lady (21yr)
Quarter horse mare - sorel. 16+ hands. Lady is broke to ride but hasn't been ridden for about nine years. She will need someone who is wanting a sweet, loving, gentle horse, but who will be content with bringing her back into shape. She is healthy, but developing some arthritis. Located in Franksville, WI, with Mr. Foster. Call the ASAP office for more details.
Show Me The Cards (3yr)
STB gelding - 15.2hh. Bay. This gentle, loving horse is great with people--but he's just not fast enough to be a racer. He's extremely fit and healthy and read for a new life. Located in Boyton Beach, FL. Sire: Cams Card Shark.
Marengo Lane (16yr)

STB bay gelding - at one time owned by one of the leading trainers in the Midwest and raced to become a legend in his own time. 15.3 hands. Lane has the face of a deer and is gentle to ride despite his size. Very gentle - I wouldn't hesitate to put him in with my own horses. Currently located in Iowa with Mama's Valentine. These two wonderful horses are being returned to the program and are still searching for their forever home.
Mama's Valentine (20yr)

Sweet Standardbred mare; broke to ride; kid safe; no jumping. Currently located in Iowa with Marengo Lane. These two wonderful horses are being returned to the program and are still searching for their forever home.
Maureen Anastasia

STB mare - trotter. 16 hh. Bay. Good temperament but showed little endurance when trotting on the track. Maureen is a beauty, though, and has a long, lean trotter look to her. She would stand out in the show ring. She has great breeding and is very mild mannered. Now located in Onalaska, WI. Call the ASAP office for details. Update from foster family (11/24): Maureen is a big girl, at least 16 hands. She is a very pretty bay with no white and has that long legged, lean (but not skinny) trotter look. She has settled in nicely, has great ground manners, stands quietly in the cross-ties. She hasn't even been here 48 hours yet and she will let a 10 year old girl put her halter on and lead her around. She was a little skittish the first time she went into the indoor arena, but settled down quickly. She is not at all concerned with all the commotion (other horses, children, dogs, cats, a goat and a potbellied pig) that goes on at a busy boarding stable. We lunged her at a walk and trot with no problems, the vet thought she looked fine. Also, I put my western saddle and bridle on her tonight and she, like Elba, acted like this was a daily occurrence. She should make someone a very nice riding horse, western or English. Update (12/03): Now being saddle trained! Update (1/12): Maureen is back from saddle training. The past two weekends have found Lynette Laska and Andrea Hanson playing with Maureen. Although she is only three years old, she is an extremely quiet horse, and willing to please. Being a trotter, she will need more time in training to get a collected canter from her, but if you want a good steady trail horse, she also a prime candidate. She is also sweet, and tugs at the heartstrings of many who come to the farm. She is one of the first to the gate to greet us on a daily basis! This horse was initially registered as a Fox Valley filly - a very prestigious breeding farm in Illinois, and she was a very expensive filly as a yearling as well. This girl will do well as a hunter/jumper/dressage horse if you choose, but would also adapt well and is ready to go on leisurely walks on roads or trails.
Place In My Heart (12yr)
STB mare - bay with star. 15+ hands. This mare was saved from slaughter by current owners. They tried to breed her unsuccessfully. She's good with people but as of yet not broke to ride. Her front ankles show some wear and tear. Located in Michigan, west of Ann Arbor. Coggins will expire soon! Please call the ASAP office for more details.
Kellwood (14yr)
STB mare - bay with white star. 14.2 hands. Kellwood is a pacer who is broke to ride. She walks, trots, and canters under saddle. Good with beginners. Kellwood was a hunter, but due to knee problems she shouldn't be jumped. Located in Indiana.
Touch of Greatness (10yr)

STB gelding - bay. Since going into foster care, "Grady" has been ridden regularly by two teen-age girls. He is quiet and responsive - has a kind eye and a quiet manner. Would also be well suited to a home where he can be enjoyed by the entire family - young to old!
Mini Happi Times (9yr)

STB mare - 14.2 hands. Bay with white star. This lovely horse has been ridden about a dozen times and current owner states she shows dressage potential. She was being conditioned for jumping but due to suspensory problems, she cannot jump. Update (1/6): Now at the ASAP farm! Wow, you should see her beautiful, thick mane!
Bretta Bardeau (11yr)

STB mare - dark bay. Returning to program as her adopter is going through some health problems. Bretta is sound and good for both riding and driving. She's said to be a spunky mare, but she's also very sweet. Located in Viroqua, WI. Update (12/10): Now at the ASAP farm!
Bell Valley Foul (3yr)
STB light bay gelding - trained but never raced - sound, "excellent". Friendly - tall - easy to handle - trained to harness. Currently in foster care in Waukegan, IL - Call ASAP for directions! UPDATE (7/1): This BIG three year old gelding is quite the smart three year old, and just might have a home with the volunteer who is fostering him at Waukegan, IL. To see him, contact the ASAP farm. He is currently being trained to saddle.
Land of Witches and Angel Spirit

Look at Angel Spirit now! (11/22)
Land of Witches is a broodmare who had a stunning, refined solid light bay filly. Since I don't care for her name (the Witches part), I have decided that her baby's name should be glorifying, so I have named her Angel Spirit. We can call her Spirit for short! Land of Witches and Angel Spirit must be placed together. ASAP Farm. Update (8/20): They are both doing well - Angel Spirit is the more curious and playful filly of the two. She is a gorgeous bay with no white markings. Land of Witches' leg doesn't bother her one bit, and it is hardly noticeable unless you are looking for it. Hope someone will give these two a loving home quickly!

Land of Witches, above

Angel Spirit, this summer
Please note that Angel Spirit, though sure to be a wonderful horse, cannot be registered with the USTA or raced due to placement contract agreements.
Trendy Liz (8yr)

Bay STB mare - GOOD sized - ex-pacer ... has produced two foals since retiring from a racing career. She is sound as they come - no injuries forced her from the track. She is an alpha mare - nice to handle and be around but at graining time the owner has strongly suggested to grain her first! She can be a kicker at feeding time ... mainly to other horses. Loads well and hauls well - call ASAP for more details. Updated (11/23): Now at the ASAP farm!
Jolly Glad N (14yr)

Bay STB mare - small and fine boned - refined and petite - very pretty! This New Zealand bred horse has produced three foals - the latest one born in May. She will no longer be bred to produce racing babies. She is sound and healthy - has had West Nile Virus vac and all other vaccinations. She has been ridden bareback. She is being placed by an extremely caring and loving owner in Chicago who knows her inside and out and hopes for a lifetime home! She has made over $100,000 lifetime! Updated (11/23): Now at the ASAP farm!
JoAnna's Flying Star (8yr)

Standardbred gelding - large, slightly built bay horse - an 11 year old girl retrained this horse to saddle after his racing career ended five years ago. He is well-broke, easy to turn out in a herd, gentle, and kind. Sire: Flying Rich - formerly raced with a time of 1:59 and retired as a SOUND horse. No leg problems, so anticipate unlimited riding with this wonderful horse! In Illinois - due to come to ASAP farm when coggins and health certificate is ready sometime next week. Update (11/12): Now at the ASAP farm. He's at least 16 hh!
Fox Valley Deon (3yr)

Affectionate light bay Standardbred gelding - about 15 hands - sound - long and lanky & sweet as pie! Most recently raced at Maywood. Deon is sound but lost some weight at the racetrack. His sweet temperament would make him a fantastic kid's horse. Call ASAP for more details. You must meet this guy in person at the ASAP farm in De Soto! UPDATE (10/5): Actually thinks he is a dog! Very friendly - follows people around and wants all the attention. Scheduled to go to saddle training soon unless someone wants to retrain themselves - it won't be hard. He was cantering around the paddock yesterday and into everything as we were putting up new 4 x 8 boards in the three sided sheds!! UPDATE (10/23): Dion went for a little ride on Saturday - to my friend and fellow teacher's house about 20 miles away. I tried for a couple of weeks to get weight on him and it wasn't happening as quickly as I wanted - and his hoof where the hoof wall had been rebuilt with fiberglass needed attention. Our wonderful friend took him home to give him the 1:1 attention he needed after doing the same for Taken By Surprise, who has now rejoined the other horses at the ASAP farm. Dion loaded very well - only needed a few moments to be coaxed into the trailer - and Sara is enjoying her time with him! He is still there but he can be seen at Sara's. Just call or e-mail me for directions.
Masqued Hombre (3yr)

Hombre a 15.2, bay, 3 year old Standardbred gelding. He got cast in his stall on April 15th 2002 (prior to racing) and sustained torn ligaments in his left rear pastern. He was on stall rest for a couple of months and has been turned out since July. He moves well (runs, jumps, spins) with no sign of the injury. The vets say he shouldn't carry any weight until next spring (though he is ready and able for any groundwork), but his injury won't prevent him from being a great trail horse! He's good in the herd, not dominant, gets along with everyone. He's very bright, friendly and willing to please. Star pupil at the Richard Shrake clinic at the Northern Illinois HorseFest! In fact, he not only showed he was a quick learner, but Richard noted that he was a perfect "10" in 3 different conformation measurements! He's healthy, an easy keeper and comes right up to you in the pasture. Broke to drive and will be easy to break to saddle. Truly a wonderful horse. In foster care in Oregon, IL. Update (11/2): Hombre's foster family report that he's feeling great. The other day he chased another horse and actually jumped over the water tank! No sign of his injury at all.
Bad Alice
STB mare - fully recovered and sound after breaking coffin bone three years ago. She has had a saddle on just one time but she did a great job. Located in Michigan.
Elba (3yr)
STB filly - trotter. 15.2 hh. Bay. Elba is sound but showed no real get-up-and-go when it came to racing. Should make a great saddle prospect. Now located in Onalaska, WI. Call the ASAP office for details.
OG Northview

15 hand Bay Standardbred gelding - sound for riding or driving - trained for driving - not yet retrained to ride. Friendly, loves children and other animals. UPDATE: Now being saddle-trained! Note from Trainer: Just wanted to say that OG Northview is a little head shy - once caught he is fine to handle but will not willingly come without feed. Is not a beginner's horse." UPDATE (10/5): What changes have occurred in this horse during the past couple of months! He went from saddle training to foster care, where he was ridden several times a week, and was even trailered to different places to ride. He has been ridden by neighbor children. He now comes right up to people in the paddock (earlier in the year he did not want anything to do with people) and follows everyone around, even when it isn't time for treats! The time to adopt this gorgeous, long-maned horse is now, while he has so recently been ridden on a consistent basis. I think he would do very well with a teen age girl, or a woman with a gentle voice and touch. He responds readily to this approach. Come see him! UPDATE (10/23): OG is an endearing fellow as well - and can be difficult to catch when he sees a lead rope or halter too! When the grain comes, though ... look out! He's all over me! He eats out of my hand! Once caught he is a bit timid ... doesn't like sudden movements around his head ... perhaps from somewhere in his past? He is easy for kids to ride and has been a great trail horse. He trailers well - ties well - but needs an understanding handler - one who wants a real companion as you earn his trust. He is a beautiful horse. Look at his long mane and tail!
Sis Herself (5yr)

STB mare. Dark bay. 15.2 to 15.3 hands. Last raced just a few weeks ago. Sis has chips on her cannon bone, but she should be a good addition to your family. She is very mellow and loves children. Call ASAP for more information. UPDATE (10/5): This five year old mare made $37,000 before the splinter on her cannon bone made further racing impossible. She is sweet, loves children, and has grown up with the owner's now six year old daughter. She is gentle as a kitten when being handled by this little girl, and would make a great home as a riding horse with children. Beautiful face! Owners very attached and would like to keep in contact with whoever adopts Sis. UPDATE (10/22): Sis is now at the ASAP farm! She is very beautiful and has a sweet head and disposition. UPDATE (10/23): She is at the ASAP farm in Wisconsin.....and she is at least 15.2 hands, not 14 as reported earlier. She has a beautiful small head and bright eyes! She has reacted to her environment by being a little bit snorty and timid, but as she approaches and smells people and animals around her she becomes quite affectionate. We will wait and see how she settles in, but I would anticipate, at least at this point, that she will need an experienced person that understands horse body language. She is beautiful and sleek! She may settle right in and become a quiet, gentle, unflappable horse!
Friendly Explosion (8yr)

STB bay gelding; sustained a hip injury several months ago; needs a companion home. ASAP farm. UPDATE: Much improved condition. Great for light riding. Gaining weight and becoming more and more sound everyday! UPDATE (7/1): Back at the ASAP farm after a brief adoption by a local couple. Expo was ridden by the couple's children, nieces and nephews and was an absolute gentleman. He can be considered unflappable and very bonded with people. He will never be 100% due to a hip injury he incurred some time ago, but is fine for light riding and the only reason he was returned is because of the couples' passion for doing longer, harder rides that Expo was not capable to participate in. Expo is a horse with a heart - bigger than you could ever imagine!
Tavarious First (8yr)

STB mare. 14.2 hh. Bay with a white star. Shown as a roadster but on stall rest due to a hairline fracture of her hock. She placed 8th (out of 16) at the World's Championship Horse Show in Louisville, KY in the USTA Classic Class winning prize money of $1,700.00. Should be ready for saddle training in the spring. Call ASAP for more details.
Amazing Values (7yr)

Standardbred mare - last raced four years ago, then retrained as a Western and English riding horse. This mare is over 15 hands tall - a solid bay - has been a therapeutic riding horse!!! She is gentle, sweet in nature, and perfect for beginner riders. She has had treatment to a cannon bone as a three year old, so Amazing Values may have limitations as a horse used for hard riding, but her temperament and training make her extremely suitable for families needing the confidence and sweet spirit demonstrated by this mare. Now at the ASAP farm! Update (8/27): This gal (a.k.a. "Nealie") can stand up for herself in any situation. She loves Table Nonsense and doesn't care much for anyone else at this point. She came to terms with Niatrick while turned out the other day as they reestablished who's in charge. Niatrick now knows not to push it with Nealie any more! She is an easy keeper ... very well mannered under saddle but tries to eat grass while you are holding her by the halter and lead rope.
Table Nonsense (5yr)

Bay Standardbred gelding. He has two front ankles that show a bit of wear and tear from his racing days, but he is sound and moves gracefully. He has been a little "aloof" since he arrived and has herded Amazing Values and Mocha away from the others and wants the women "all to himself," but it is Amazing Values who draws the boundaries with the other geldings and Table Nonsense stays in the background, waiting for Mocha or Amazing Values to nicker "all clear" to him when the confrontations come. Niatrick has learned to stay out of the way of Amazing Values and Table Nonsense at this point. (He was knocked down a notch or two in his position as "king of the herd" in the back acre.) Table Nonsense scored his first victory in my heart tonight when he walked up to me without reservation for some affection - a thing he has not done since he came. I think he is learning that I am okay! And ... I bring the goodies - what can I say? Table Nonsense is 15.2 hands plus - a shiny, sleek bay, and should adjust nicely as a pleasure and trails horse. No dressage or jumping for this boy because of his ankles, but other pleasure riding or driving is fine. UPDATE (9/17): Now being saddle trained! UPDATE (9/28): Table Nonsense has just returned from saddle training and he is now ready for adoption. Come take a look at this boy! UPDATE (10/23): Table is slow to warm up to being caught when turned out. He is very suspicious of a lead rope or halter! At other times when he does not spy any lead ropes or halters and I walk towards him in the pasture, he will walk right up to me and nuzzle. He will stand for long periods of time to be groomed or petted, and will drop his head down and loves to be scratches on the neck. If anyone is looking for a good riding horse that they are willing to allow the time to work out of not coming when called, Table is reliable and very sound to ride. The first day of retraining under saddle, the professional trainer rode him six miles! He was able to get him to walk, trot, and canter under saddle. Once caught he has wonderful manners - he is quiet to tie, tack, and ride. Will someone be his friend?
Pan Overboard (6yr)

Standardbred gelding - 16.2 hh. Dark bay - also known as "Pilgrim." Pan is returning to the program. He has been ridden quite a bit, is a quick turner and seems to enjoy barrel patterns. Up to date on all shots, including West Nile. Call ASAP for more details.
Glittering Glamour (21yr)
STB bay mare. Quiet. Returning to the program. 15.2 hands but stocky. Located near Coon Valley. Broke to ride. Very low adoption fee if placed with String of Poloponies. Contact ASAP for more information.
String of Poloponies (21yr)
STB bay mare. Returning to the program. Spirited. Located near Coon Valley. Broke to ride. Very low adoption fee if placed with Glittering Glamour. Contact ASAP for more information.
Dusty (15yr)

Quarter Horse gelding - approx. 15 hands. Grullo - beautiful color! Dusty was once a Little Britches rodeo horse, but he hasn't been ridden much in the past few years.
Cavalier

Cavalier is a yearling gelding, chestnut, 3/4 Arab 1/4 saddlebred, he should finish out at about 15-15.2h. Beautiful English/dressage type gaits. He is perfectly sound and in really nice condition, has excellent ground manners and is great around kids. According to previous owner, all the groundwork has been done, both lunge and drive with saddle and snaffle bridle. He has been worked around by children, gone to shows and trailers nicely. Like Oracle, he received 2nd place in his halter class at the last show.
Society's Prize

Description of this beautiful horse coming soon - for more info, please contact the ASAP office.
