American Standardbred Adoption Program
Buckaroo Bub

Buckaroo was just picked up from Michigan. He is available for adoption - Please call ASAP office for details.
Karri's First (19yr)

This STB mare has just been returned to our program after four and a half years with the same adopters. She was bred but never stuck, so we can consider her barren. She is 15 hands, with a beautiful face and the build of a quarter horse. She is sound, and needs a companion home, with the potential for being retrained for saddle. She is a former racing horse and is well-suited as a driving horse. This horse may be priced low to the RIGHT interested qualified party.
UPDATE: Karri is now being trained in Whitewater, WI.
Quick Tide (11yr)

While still in recovery, this horse has bloodlines going back to Albatross and earned a lot of money on the track. He was adopted out until an injury of unknown origin was acquired at the adoptive home. He was taken back in to ASAP's care (the Bonny's have done a fabulous job of nursing him back to health). While hundreds of pounds underweight he is beginning to regain his health and soundness. He is saddle trained and needs a loving home to help him until he is back to 100%. Adoption fee of $350 negotiable. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: Still putting on weight but is looking better. Middle-level herd order. Saddle-broke and has been trail ridden. Beautiful long black mane and tail. Would be fine for a beginning rider. Easy to handle and manage. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Chipper (3yr)

Bay STB gelding; 15 hands; broke to ride and drive; well mannered. Chipper was an Amish harness horse, and he was also ridden by children while there. He is sweet and very mellow. Call ASAP farm to meet this wonderful guy in person!
Vindicator (6yr)

STB gelding; sound; 15.2 hands; solid bay; completing training under saddle and is mannerly and gentle. An old racing injury is evident by the bowed tendon on a right front, but this doesn't affect his performance thus far. He is a tall (15'3 to 16 hand) leggy dark bay, and a sweet gentle disposition. Ready for his new home, this six year old will provide you with friendship as well as hours of riding.
UPDATE FROM TRAINER: Today Vinnie completed his first trail ride. He was just great. We went for about an hour, through the 200 acre bean field, into the woods, across a stream, along a road for a few minutes. He seemed to enjoy himself. Because his feet have been so sore until about two days ago, I've only felt comfortable riding him at a walk, but yesterday he trotted nicely for several minutes. Vinnie should make someone a fantastic trail horse. His stable manners are somewhat odd. I ignored it when he first got here but I've been verbally reprimanding him recently and it seems to be working. On the other hand, he is the first one to come up to me in the pasture, and is very gentle taking treats. He stands cross tied and is thrilled to be in a stall, even when the other horses are outside.Vinny is looking for the family of his dreams. Well trained and now beautiful, could it be you?
Lil Red Rooster (3yr)

Easy to drive, and will soon be trained to ride - this young Standardbred gelding is really something to crow about! He is retiring with earnings of $12,000 after sustaining a sesamoid injury in 2000 which required surgery to remove chips. He is sound, but can't take the track with its high speeds. Suitable for pleasure riding or driving. The Rooster is about 15'1 hands and sleek - a SORREL with white blaze and white feet! He trots with head and tail head high and struts his stuff. He is truly gorgeous and he knows it! He loves people - always has to be in the middle of everything you are doing - he's still a kid in many ways.
When you are working outside, you can bet the rooster boy will be right there snooping around with his nose in your back! He hauls well and is ready to be trained to saddle. Trainer describes him as a real go-getter on the track. Vet and trainer okay this horse for immediate riding. A perfect kid's horse, he loads, clips, hauls, and has excellent manners. If you want a horse with attitude and conformation to match, call us now.
All American Honor (4yr)

The silver son of Laag (the Breyer horse harness-racing model) is a true beauty, but his ground manners thus far leave a little to be desired. He has had initial saddle training, but ground manners need work. He is hard to catch in the pasture, but in the barn and a stall he is a true gentleman. His plans are to be ridden each day for several miles on trails and in the arena to refine his gaits.
UPDATE: Honor has now turned into quite the riding horse. The trick with this gelding is that when he is turned out in a large area with mares he doesn't like to be caught and is a challenge. Now, once his is haltered, he ties well and stands well for tacking. He is well started under saddle at the walk, trot, and canter. He has wonderful ground manners when he is not in a pasture with other horses! He is fine when kept in a stall. This horse might be best suited for an experienced horse person, although the actual riding part is a breeze.
Rompaway Tom (3yr)

This stunning bay gelding is TALL and he is a high stepper. His tail shoots up when he trots, and he has a LONG trot. He is naturally curious and friendly - and at three years of age he has a lifetime of bonding to offer. He is approximately 15'3 hands and growing - and is sound. Not yet saddle trained, but broke to harness and awesome ground manners.
UPDATE: Tom just experienced his first day under saddle and was a perfect gentleman!
Willow (7yr)

Arabian gelding; sorrel with white sox and star- well trained with lots of endurance; between 14 and 15 hands; needs a rider who wants to GO!; Now saddle trained!
(Adopted by the same people who adopted Rooster above.)
Christopher II (11yr)

STB gelding; mahogany bay with stout legs and a strut that will blow your boots off! Tail straight in air, he thinks he's hot stuff, and he is. He is vocal in a herd - and full of energy. This horse has been around with ASAP since 1997, and came from one of the most affluent training farms at that time in the entire United States. Imagine a barn with your own swimming pool? Christopher had one!! And now he seeks an experienced rider who wants to go, go, go. He is flashy and friendly - 15'2 hands - evidence of old bowed tendon from 1996 or 1997 that stopped his racing career doesn't interfere with pleasure performance. Trained for trails in 1997-98 under saddle.
Lucky (8yr)

Thoroughbred gelding; 15.3 hands; shown in hunter jumper classes; also used for western pleasure and trail rides; He is a big stout black/brown horse who needs an experienced rider to help him regain his hunter/jumper and trail skills. Although he is friendly on the ground and likes people, saddling him has lately been an endeavor that brings about behaviors such as kicking out his hind feet. He should never have sweet feed. Contact us if you have the time to discipline and enjoy this perfectly sound horse with tons of potential.
Missy

Aged STB mare - never raced. Former owner purchased this small, stocky mare under the pretenses of her being a Quarter horse. The horse has been a fantastic kid's lesson horse - friendly, quiet, and in all ways a sure choice for a family looking for a first horse for their child, or a small adult that is just learning to ride. She is small - around 14 hands, bay, but very stocky - an easy keeper!!!
Ima Spoiled Brat
STB mare.
Au NowYadidit (7yr)
An outstanding, distinctive bay gelding, this horse was the first of these first three horses to be refined in training. He has wonderful ground manners, and accepted the saddle immediately. He was easy to mount and ride. He has had many hours of riding and the trainer feels after only one week is ready for adoption. He is friendly and curious and his conformation and temperament would make him a great 4-H horse, for showing, gaming, trails, and companionship.
UPDATE: He is gentle and easy to load, clip, and in all other ways handle. He is easy to ride. He, however, will NOT canter. He was raced as a trotter, and he can trot faster than any of the other horses that are galloping beside him (picture it)! So, if you want to win big at those walk-trot classes or just are a "trotting junkie" that can ride that gait all day long, or just plain don't care as long as you have a safe riding horse, he is IT. $800
One Bad Bob (3yr)

This small three year old bay STB loves children, and has matured socially in a great way since first coming into the ASAP program. When he first arrived in the country Bob was afraid of his own shadow - now, after comprehensive training under saddle, he is quiet and easy to ride. Last weekend three children ages 5, 8, and 11 handled him while dogs wrestled and screaming kids jumped on trampolines all around him. Wormed 11-10-01. Can be dominant in a herd, but not at the ASAP farm (too many veteran horses around to keep him in line!) Call us before he's gone!

UPDATE: We've had "Bob' for about a little over 2 weeks now and he's adjusting very nice to our barn. The other horses here thinks he's "pretty handsome", as they are mares. We've been riding him with a loose hackamore and he seems to respond very nicely with no problems. He's really taken an affection for his new adopters . Bob is always the first one at the gate ready to go riding. Last weekend we rode up through the woods and did some road riding which went really well in fact he did better than our older veteran mare. She was a "stinker". We just want to say a big THANK-YOU to the A.S.A.P. for giving us the opportunity of a lifetime to own and adopte one of the these beautiful animals.
Thanks again, Theresa and Stephanie
Broadway Master (7yr)
This breathtaking 15'1 hand roan out of Broadway Express has only been in training for a little over one week, but is already saddle trained and well-mannered. He will be a great show horse, gaming horse, or trail horse. Great potential as a dressage horse. UPDATE: This roan gelding was very easy to get well-started under saddle. He is mannerly both in a herd and in a barn. He trailers well, and stands well tied. He knows how to walk, trot, and canter. He is gentle, yet has good positive energy. $800 makes him worth every penny.

Maybe I'm Right (6yr)
This 15'3 hand black bay gelding is saddle trained. His resume includes being taken to the county fair in 2000 by a 4-H'er. He is gentle and quiet, and loves attention. He is submissive in a herd. He is a re-placement. His previous adopters had to relocate.
Ruff Blade

ASAP farm; 7yr; Black Thoroughbred gelding- 15.2 hands- broke to ride- easy to handle, but is a cribber- $400 at ASAP farm.
UPDATE FROM ADOPTER: It has been a week now that I have had him. He is truly a unique horse. I can go out in his pasture and he will just follow me around. When deer season started my dad and my brother would walk through his pasture and he would follow them all the way until they crossed the fence. Then he would stand there as if he were waiting for them to come back. I would call him down for grain, but as soon as he was done eating it, he would go back up to the spot they would come down. Then he followed them back down. It was really funny. My brother seems to like him alot. I catch him all the time sneaking corn and other goodies to Ruff Blade all the time. He thinks I don't notice, but I do. I know that you said he had a cribbing problem, but he hasn't even attempted to do it at all here. I guess he did do it a little the first night, but he hasn't even attempted to do it after that. We talked to the vet about his weight problem and they gave us this special kind of grain to use. It is supposed to put weight on really fast. It is called "Tiz-Wiz". It is working perfectly. He is already starting to gain some weight just after a week. He seems like he has more energy, because he will trot down to meet me instead of just walking. I have taken him for walks down the road and everything. He loves it. Dolly and Sue are getting acquainted to him. Dolly has been a little pain, but they are doing better. My sister has rode him and thinks he is a very nice horse. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to have him.
Thanks, Tiff
