Gator Chase (7yr)
Standardbred gelding from Wisconsin. Trained to race - nice and easy going, healthy and nice to handle. UPDATE (11/2/06): Our best guess is that Gator is about 15h...maybe 15-1h. He is not real big bodied, he's more refined. It was getting dark by the time we got to him, but he came out of the pasture, away from his friends, past all the scary stuff just fine. We had yapping dogs (farrier had 5 little rat terriers in her car), clanking metal (my husband was loading scrap to take to the salvage yard today) various howling, whining and barking from our dogs, cats running underfoot and people walking around in the dark on the crunchy leaves. All kinds of spooky stuff going on, and he was great, he did see everything, but he just tensed up, didn't jump or attempt to bolt, and it just took a calm word or touch to reassure him. She was trimming him by car headlights, so just got the fronts, but he was awesome. His toes were quite long, and he had a lot of dead sole, so it took a fair amount of time and with all that was going on, he stood perfectly. My friend, the farrier is not a big fan of Standardbreds, but she thinks he's kind of cute, nice head. I also with all due respect call her a "conformation geek" and she had nothing negative to say about him, thought he was put together nicely. (UPDATE (12/12): I LOVE THIS HORSE! He is fine-boned and there is nothing especially striking about him, yet he has a head and an eye like Janimal - small and those dark eyes set wide apart just pull at your heart strings. With Uncle Skippy and My Ciao Baby in their new homes, it gave me more time to spend with Gator. He is submissive in a herd. He loves people and treats. He is very quiet when being led and very compliant. He does not shy or balk about going in and out through narrow openings or doorways. He is well-behaved in a stall. He does not chew wood. I have put equipment on him and he is very quiet for tacking. I have not yet had a bridle on him but will do some ground driving this weekend. He loves attention and seems to be a more responsive horse to affection and handling. He would spend all day just "hanging" with someone if given the opportunity! Gator Chaser needs to be trained to ride. Is timid in the beginning til he knows someone but is not easily spooked when he is being handled. Curious and cute.
Loves to explore his surroundings on a lead line. Easy to bathe, clip, load and haul. In the past he has been difficult to catch when turned out but now is eager to be handled, brushed, loved and will ground tie for this and does not need to be chased. Scared to death of the sled that carried his grain down to him when the deep snow was abundant, but over time desensitized to it. Gator is the leader of the boys in the herd - gets what he wants without a fight - strong body language says it all. UPDATE (4/25): Now in saddle training. UPDATE (8/15) Gator finished two weeks of retraining.
He now can walk trot and canter under saddle on trails!
He has been at the ASAP farm far too long. This horse is the perfect age, and he is completely sound. We would love for those of you looking for a horse with unlimited riding and driving potential to come and see him. Adoption price: $500

No More Compromise (3yr)
STB gelding from Florida to Illinois to ASAP! UPDATE (2/10): This sweet little guy is from Florida! Actually he started out in Illinois and cost $10,000 as a yearling.Despite having no injuries, Compromise was just not making the speed. I brought him up to the barn for a few days when a back leg was sore for some reason and he just lays his head on my shoulder and cuddles. Then I notice that he also likes to play kissy kissy and will smush his lips into yours! He does kick his stall wall when frustrated. He also likes to be boss with other horses and he and Hollywood Sam are very bonded since they trailered together (yes that DOES happen). He has tons of potential as a great pet and riding companion and is still so young!!! Hesitant to load in trailer but hauls well once inside. Kicks stall walls if he is kept in - likes to be turned out. Gets along well with other horses in herd. Does not spook at much of anything at any time. Likes to cuddle
Update 9/2/07: Poor Compromise! He is still at ASAP and how much longer can he wait for the right family? He is a very young horse, but has completed saddle retraining and got an "A" on trails. The first few times on trails he did not want to watch where he was going, as Standardbreds typically have their heads up rather than down when traveling. Once he tripped he learned to put his head down and watch. He has been ridden by my foster son for the past month who is what you would consider a beginner rider. ompromise is very kind to whoever gets on his back. He loves to go down the road and is not herd bound.
He may be stubborn with people who do not know how to make him move out. He is inclined to just stand and have whoever is on his back use every trick in the book to "Giddy-up" and he won't move. Needless to say, Compromise is not as sensitive to leg cues as he is to driving cues. He also responds to a crop tapped very lightly on his butt. He is sweet and gentle and I would consider him a great pet for a family. He is a good sound trail horse. He may be a little too laid back for anyone who is looking for a speed horse!

Fox Valley Equinox
STB gelding. now completely retrained to saddle. Spooked a little the first three days on trails but never bucked, reared, or balked. Scared to death of steers first few days - desensitized to cattle after two weeks! He is a little black bay with a Roman nose! He made $20,000 and was a pacer. Foaling Date: 01/23/2000. Sire: INCREDIBLE FINALE, Dam: LOAFSTER. Fox Valley Equinox is now trained to ride and has a beautiful running walk! |
Lilly Long (3yr)

Zagnut lives now in Mississippi with his adopter Beth. For all who remember Zagnut, here a new image of him, he is doing great..
|
| |
Miss Josie

STB mare, currently located in Iowa. Bay. Very pretty. Josie is good under saddle, but can use a more experienced rider. Josie is a sweet mare. Please call Susan for more details. |
Bo Knows Silky Too (8 or 9)

STB Gelding 16h bay. Trailers well, saddle trained. Needs a tune up with an intermediate or higher rider. Current on vaccinations and farrier. Update (2/10): Bo is a ball of personality. He also does not neck rein. He is a bit of a kicker at other horses in regards to the routine of haying and does not like waiting his turn. No biting, no problem behaviors, he trailors great and way on a day long trail ride with 10 other horses and did great. He needs arena work with leg pressure etc. At this point acts like he does not know what was asked of him. As with Dolly, Bo leads great, responds calmly to touch and seems to yearn for affection. He is an easy keeper as far as winter and haying. He has been ridden with Tom Thumbs and adapts well to other tack as well. |
Fred (16yr)
Belgian gelding. 17'1 hands tall - big sorrel with flaxen mane and tail
Was an Amish work horse - bought by caring individual who has put 300# on Fred since she acquired him. He is described as steady, super submissive in a herd, "happy devil". They use a breast collar with him - have had grandkids set on his back. He used to not like cats one little bit but now is used to them. His shoulders get sore at times... all set to go and up to date on shots. Currently still with placing owner in Broadhead WI. |
Knot In My Knickers (7yr)
STB gelding. Big and docile. Brown with small amount of white on feet. He bowed a tendon and is resting at Springfield at the moment. Scheduled to come by end of October to ASAP farm. UPDATE (11/3): Knot is here. He is currently learning how to live peaceably in a herd of horses and just getting used to retirement. Easy to handle on the ground - dominant in a herd but this could change. A true athlete! (UPDATE 12/12): Now this is one mighty horse! His bowed tendon is set now - if you look closely you will see the bulge but it does not affect him at the walk, trot, or canter. He had some problems adjusting to being in a herd and felt he must be top dog....and was a bit of a bully to Gator Chase and Lucky and even Larry the Bird. Now when you look into his turnout you will see them all standing peacefully together munching hay, so he is settling down. He tends to be a bit pushy about wanting attention. If you go down to see him he will nip at your fingers as if looking for treats. He also will pin his ears back at times if you don't take him out soon enough - he loves to be out with people. He is a totally different horse once you have a lead line on him. You can lead him with only one finger on the rope and he will follow. He stands quietly and if turned loose for exercise in an area such as an indoor arena he will choose to follow you around rather than kick up his heels and frolick. He does NOT like to be left alone in a stall, and my stall walls prove that with some stunning hoof marks in them. He is so beautiful that it is hard to imagine without coming to ASAP to see for yourself! (UPDATE 2/10): Knot Inmy Knickers - he is big big big. He is strong-minded and doesn't like to be left alone in a stall and will kick the dickens out of it. He is beautiful and easy to handle. Very dominant. $500 |
R Little Rich Boy (3yr)
STB gelding. Sound. Black. Very beautiful. At ASAP. UPDATE (3/2): He has a short back and a gorgeous thick neck with thick mane and tail. He is becoming so friendly now that he will be in my back pocket at all times. The farrier was here yesterday and he just stood in the midst of the herd, ground tied, while the farrier trimmed him. Such a sweet and loving horse! I think if we ever get spring he will be one of the first horses I ride! This tall black horse is like a little timid child. He seems to warm up to women more than men. He does well when talked to quietly and a gentle hand. He is spooky around new things but when reassured he desensitizes very well. Gets along well in a herd. He acts like a horse who never has had much training....we know he was trained to harness but would consider him young and fairly green. Stunningly gorgeous. Hauls well - like a gentleman - clips and ties. |
Kari's First

Aged STB mare returning to the program. Current adopter states, "She's a great pasture pal, and she's in great shape. She's an easy keeper, but she really does need to go somewhere that has a SMALL herd. She can't be left outside with a round bale, etc. She's not going to fare well that way. She gets pushed away. She is good for lead lining for little kids, etc. I don't think she's really trained to ride, we tried it a couple times, and she was a bucker!!! I think she was mostly a brood mare for years. She might have been trained to drive, but her stats say she raced 3 times back in the early 80's. We've never driven her, she's probaby too old to try to retrain to work. She's really good with younger horses, and babies." Please call for more details. (Please note photo is several years old.) |
|
Rova J (4yr)
STB mare. STB mare. Black. Very beautiful! She has been continuing her efforts to qualify for racing but the owner has decided he is going to quit with her. She is the daughter of Zerkel Toden. |
Rocking Standout (15yr)
STB mare - bay with stripe on face and socks on hind legs. Very pretty. 15hh. When Standout came into the ASAP program two years ago, she surprised everyone by having a foal. She's had four foals total. She has a lanky build and a longer barrel. Sound. |
Fernback Phillip (5yr)
Red bay Standardbred gelding. Recovering from hairline knee fracture - has been on stall rest and is now ready to be placed in a loving home. He is about 15'1 hands tall and is sooooo affectionate and gentle!!! Soon to come to ASAP farm. UPDATE (4/25): Now completely retrained to saddle. Six miles a day on trails at walk trot and canter. Never bucked, reared, or balked. Perfect gentleman. Still direct reins |
Hollywood Sam (8yr)
STB gelding. Bay with faint star. Sire: Nobleland Sam, Dam: Layla Bret. Date of birth 5/29/98. Pacer. Fastest time: 149.2M. Lifetime earnings $532,570! Please call for more info on this horse. UPDATE (2/10): Sue states, "Not yet trained to ride. He has been around the block and back - raced all over America - is a perfect gentleman to handle. $550." This horse has been a lot of miles in his life. He is easy to load and stands quietly in a trailer. He is easy to handle. Gets a bit nippy at feeding time if you try to mess with him too much. He likes his "alone" time to eat. Likes a blanket when it is cold out and will stand willingly without being tied to put it on. Clips. Good in a stall. UPDATE (4/25): Now in saddle training. |
Poco Te Skip (5yr)
"Breeze" is a bay registered QH. Current owner states, "I think when she's done filling out, she's going to be sharp! She has some great bloodlines (a lot of foundation blood, and Impressive on the bottom). She's about 15'2" and has had 60 days training last year, so she knows the basics. She likes to move out, so I don't know that she'll ever have the slow Western jog - when I was riding her it felt more like an English movement, but who knows after she has more time on her. I don't have an indoor arena, so, unfortunately she hasn't been ridden since school started and the days got shorter. When I first got her this spring, she had not been handled much at all, in fact I later found out that they drugged her to do her feet. That's not the case anymore. She's really very sensible when she finds that she can trust you and that you're in charge." Please call ASAP to find out more about Breeze. |
R Coleateral (3yr)
STB gelding. Sound. At ASAP. Walks right into a trailer. Ground ties for grooming. Puts head on your shoulders while you are brushing him. Can be touched anywhere on his body and legs without resistance. Follows you when turned out. THICK mane and tail. Clips, ties, and not flighty around traffic or dogs. |
One Bad Bob (8yr)
STB gelding. Pacer. The current adopters have had Bob for six years. This is their statement, "We trained him for Level 1 dressage, we also tried jumping him but he does not have the heart for it, he loves to be "lazy". He's 15'3", Bay. He's out of One Bad Boy- MN,, EXCELLENT bloodlines! but unfortunately Bob,d id not retain his talent for racing as his daddy. Bob needs an intermediate/ experienced rider. Also we have never tried driving him, don't know how that would go. Bob has been all over this country- showing and competing so he's not new to anything, trailers, baths, trims, clips-okay, Loves attention and especially if he's the only horse. Does not like being in a stall, gets cranky! So we open pasture him with TJ Wolf." $450 |
TJ Wolf (13yr)
STB gelding. 15'3-16" pacer. Current adopter states, "Gentle disposition, good trail horse, does have "knocked knees" from racing all the years till he was about 7 I believe but they don't bother him in the least. "T's" Excellent with kids, loves treats and affection. Isn't as herd dominate as Bob. Sadly my daughter has outgrown him in size and interest." $350 |
Margie's Bunny
This great name in harness racing has been a pleasure horse and has produced one foal since retirement with ASAP. She is retrained to saddle and is available - currently in Illinois. This mare is tall! UPDATE (2/10): In Whitewater, WI, with Legacy Lin. Very gentle and trained to ride. |
Legacy Lin
NOTE: We are sad to report that Legacy Lin died just two weeks after he was moved to his new home.
Formerly trained by Andy Miller and placed by Andy and Erv Miller - retired due to bowed tendon and placed for adoption several years ago. This horse is retrained to ride and has been a great pleasure/trails horse for many. He is 15 hands and a bay and sound - ready to go and adopter's family is grown and gone so Margie and Lin must find new homes. Currently in Illinois. UPDATE (2/10): In Whitewater, WI, we have Legacy Lin and Margie's Bunny both trained to ride and very very gentle. Lin is one speed - slow. He is smaller and Margie is taller. he is 13 years old. He is not very tall. He has one speed and it is "no hurry". He is sweet and loving in every way and he is one of my top picks. He is in Whitewater area. He is $400.
|
Keen Mind (8yr)
Standardbred gelding. Chestnut with white blaze and three white socks. This horse had a life-threatening race injury involving a severed tendon last year. A very caring race owner/trainer nursed him and brought him back. Keen Mind is now waiting for an adoptive home. He is jogging sound on the track - his leg does not yet look perfect but he is ready to ride. He is south of Chicago. He is wonderful, sweet, gentle, loving, kind, mild mannered. His ankle is still kind of big - going to be a good pleasure horse but how much hard riding he can do is questionable. |
Falcon's Prodigy (14yr)
This Standardbred has been trained to ride for a period of years and does canter. He is currently in Florida awaiting travel to Wisconsin. He was foaled in 1992, had lifetime earnings of $27,128 and was last raced in 1998. His best time was as a 3-year-old 1 56.1. Please call ASAP for more details. |
Gridlock
STB gelding located in IL. Please call ASAP for more details. |
Morena Hanover (16yr)

STB mare. Foaled 4/22/90. Morena went thru a fence at Tanah Merah Farms. She has some cuts but appears to be okay. They all loaded and unloaded well and were easy to handle. |
Allie
STB mare. Current adopter states, "Allie was in 60 days western training this summer. She does have some soundness issues with the back leg that has a scar on it. Allie is great with the Vet and Farrier, she is update to date on all her vaccinations and wormings.
I do have a 2006 negative coggins on her. She just had her feet trimmed on 10-11-2006. Allie is an easy keeper, she is stalled at night: water, grain, grain in the morning, and hay during the day in the loafing shed." Please call for more information on Allie. She is located in Beloit, WI with Ozzie. |
Ozzie (4yr)

Registered Paint. He just turned four and is still growing. Current adopter states, "Ozzie is broke to ride, we use a Tom Thumb bit, he is easy to tack. good with the Vet + Farrier, up to date on vaccinations + wormings, he just had his feet trimmed on 10-11-2006. Ozzie is stalled at night with water, grain, and hay, grain in the morning, and hay during the day in the loafing shed. I am returning them due to health issues with a family member and do not have the time to work with them. They are truly loved and I want them to find good homes." Ozzie and Allie are located in Beloit, WI. UPDATE (2/10): Ozzie is a great boy. He's very laid back, I think he'd do fine with some training. He can be ridden, but I believe he's been taught just the basics. He's not been trained for any type of showing. He's easy to catch, can pick up his feet, has no bad vices that I've seen such as biting, kicking, rearing, etc. |
Maid Marianne (11yr)
She's a 16 HH STB mare. She's sound and sane. Loads, clips, bathes (but doesn't like it). She has been used as a trail horse. We've done some of the Parelli games with her. She will push a large ball, walk over a tarp, move away from pressure. We've ridden her with a halter (yes, on a small trail ride). Works like a bosal. She grinds her teeth on the bit when she is lacking confidence. She'll paw at the stall when she wants to be let out or if she feels ignored, but stops if you scold her. She nickers to you each morning. She'd progress best with a confident owner. She truly draws confidence from her rider. Gets along awesome with other horses. I believe she was a pacer, but she has a nice big trot. Dark bay. Great for the farrier and vet. She's of course had all of her shots and coggins. She needs to be used. She's too nice to let her sit. Please call for more details. |
Security Deposit (15yr)
This Standardbred mare is in her teens. She came into the program many years ago and has been in the same adoptive placement since being donated. She has done trails and has been in the local county fairs with her adopter's daughter. She is a smaller bay mare - about 14'2 hands. She likes children and you can put any kids on her and lead her around the yard. Up until last year she was a great trail horse. Then she became sour, balking and giving bucks about one-two miles into a trail ride. The adopter firmly believes this is behavior and not any type of soundness issue. She is not sore on her back or legs and is clean legged. Adopter believes she has less time to spend with her and this is causing some behaviors to occur. She needs a home where she can be used every day and since she loves small children she would be a great horse for grandkids if led around. She is in the Viroqua area. Please call ASAP to see her. She may be in foal. (UPDATE 12/12): Wellllll.....this mare is most likely in foal. She has been turned out with a stallion all year and if you look at her you would wager bets that she may be due before the snow melts in spring. She is small and very self-confident. |
Candy Speed (12yr)
STB mare. Foaled 4/14/94. Easy to handle. This horse was used by John Lyons as a demo horse at the 7/22/06 John Lyons clinic. UPDATE (10/3): Candy continues to be ridden. She is a docile and sweet mare. UPDATE (11/2): This mare has been ridden several times. She is patient. She even gave a two year old a ride around the yard a couple of weeks ago. This is the John Lyons clinic horse!
|
Larry the Bird (8yr)

STB gelding coming back due to no time for him. He trots and canters. He reaches when he trots and is beautiful. He is black. (UPDATE 12/12): This BLACK horse is tall and stocky. He is just solid all over. He is very friendly and affectionate. He does not appear to be afraid of much of anything, including llamas (who he is seen kissing over the fence at least once a day), dogs, or cats. He is second in command only under Knot Inmy Knickers but he is not a fighter. His mere presence just gives him more of an authoritative demeanor. I have not yet saddled him but he has been ridden twice and didn't mind. The driving part does not go as well - I think he only has one speed under harness. Larry is sound with no vices noted at this time. |
