Tra-Lee (5yr)

Bay Standardbred gelding. Very handsome--has an Arabian look. Tra-Lee is not racing sound, but would be suitable for riding and driving.  Also a bay, he is more around the 15 hand mark.  He is easy to handle, tack, groom, and loads and hauls well.  Up to date on all shots. Contact ASAP for more information.
Daisys Pride (6yr)

STB mare. Dark bay with white star. Former Amish buggy horse. She is no longer sound enough to stand heavy work pounding the highways. Very quiet, doesn’t even budge in harness if semis go by and let off the hydraulics. She is pretty with a delicate, friendly face. The Amish owner stated she may have foundered, but a vet has not examined her. She is a registered SB pacer bred in Canada. She was foaled in April 11, 1999. Please call ASAP for more details. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (12/20): She does look like she’s had a founder, gets around fine and no limp but would benefit from corrective bar shoes in front, to bring up her heels. I may contact the corrective farrier in this area about that. Will let you know more as we get to know her, and send pix- she seems very mellow, quiet, and overall easy to handle so far. She’s 15 or 15.1 HH and healthy.
ER Boregard (4yr)

Standardbred gelding This horse needs a home where he is NOT stalled often - he would do best with other horses in a run-in shelter with stalling only when necessary and always with another horse. Bo is called the "babysitter" at the farm where he is currently boarded.  He is very kind with other horses.  He is sound.  Currently in DuQuoin, IL.
Fresh Filly (9yr)

Standardbred mare.  Owner's health is failing and a home is needed for this sound, wonderful horse.  Fresh Filly has been a joy for her owners but the time has come to let someone else enjoy her as much as they have.  She is currently at DuQuoin, IL.
Laredo Hall (6yr)

STB gelding pacer. Bay. White right hind pastern with black spots on coronet. Sire: Cam Best Dam: Lola. Last raced 7/22/05. Fastest time: 1:54.1. Earned over $81,000!!! Please call ASAP for more details.
Wawatassi

Gelding who was identified after being rescued from an Amish farm where he was destined to go on a dealer's truck in April. This is him today. He is in need of a home. He is strong and healthy. He tends to be dominant in a herd. Update from current foster family (12/4): Wawatassi, whose barn name is Captain, is currently living at my farm. He's 9 years old and about 17 hands tall. I don't know whether he's broke to ride. I have a feeling he's not since it appears he went straight from the track (he made over $130,000!!) to pulling Amish buggies. That said, I don't think he would be difficult to train to saddle because he's very curious and not spooky when introduced to new things, quite lazy (not apt to buck and run because it would take too much effort), and very food/treat oriented. I think that he would do practically anything for a treat. He does have enlarged calcified hocks, on his left side in particular. He is noticeably off in his back end when I lunge him to the left and will not pick up his left lead when asked to canter. I don't think he would be good for long trail rides on rough ground, speed work, or dressage. However, I do think he would be fine for pleasure driving or light pleasure riding on relatively flat ground. The reason his racing career ended is likely because his legs weren't holding up anymore, and I know that's why the Amish man that I bought him from sold him to me. He's a real character, but he bathes well (other than wanting to play with the hose), stands pretty well for the farrier, and trailers like a dream.
Pace Invader (3yr)

STB gelding. Large - over 16 hands - bay. Sound. Never raced. Pace Invader both rides and drives - at ASAP farm.
Cheyenne

Possible QH. Mare. (There are two QH mares named Cheyenne on the site at this time!) This Cheyenne has been ridden by a teenage girl. She is quiet and calm, but doesn't go well for a stronger, more aggressive person. Currently, she is shod due to a hoof injury that is regrowing. Please contact ASAP for more information. She is in central Illinois with Fresh Filly and ER Boregard. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (12/20/05): "Cheyenne has no problems with dogs. she has NEVER offered to kick, bite, rear ect. She has been a sweetheart is one of my favorites. I rescued her and have tons of time with her. She's not a bully. In my opinion just need a loving hand and work."
Shifty Swoosh (11yr)

Gelding. Located in Prairie du Chien, WI, big 16'3 hand STB who was ridden trails. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (12/3): We have had him on several very good trail rides and other than wanting to open up and stay open he is extremely sure-footed and doesn't shy. Has a flat walk pace and can keep up with the TWH's boarded with us and as easy to ride as a gaited horse. For the last 2 months I have had Megan ride him as well. She graduated from an equine science program last spring had has a very nice seat and tender hands. With Megan Shifty collects under himself trots and canters on the right leads. She has used a running martingale to help stop the chewing and head tossing and has responded very well to it. We hand floated his teeth about 3 weeks ago to help with some chopping. It has helped but I think the chopping is a nervous habit. The quieter you are in your seat the more he listens, if you are tense he is shot. We have ridden him English, western, Austrailian in the arena as well as on trails. O ring snaf, ports, and hacks chops with em' all. O ring or hack working the best with him. We have not hooked him to drive but I am not sure my harness would go around his girth. He is truely 16.3, 1300, loads (like to rock and roll though), ties (sorta), completely sound. Black bay with a white cornet. A gentle soul in there once he lets you in. While he has been a handful some days he is a beautiful boy with huge potentail. I can see endurance, eventing, and dressage with the right person as well as one nice trail horse. Almost a warmblood look to him and a real head turner in a crowd. Not chromed but once moving given another look. A type of sky's the limit horse. In our opinion given the right direction can do anything.
Josie (17yr)

Thoroughbred mare. One of two horses that were rescued by a woman in Minnesota. She says this about Josie, "She is a companion horse only. She is an easy keeper and easy to be around. She gets along well in a herd. Josie just has arthritis in her right front fetlock and has developed a club foot on that side. She is totally sound in the pasture, but completely off if I try to ride her. Also, she requires an experienced rider and most people at that level want a horse that can do more than she can." UPDATE (8/26): Last farrier reports Josie no longer has any sign of a club foot.  She is a nice mare who craves attention from people.  She is low on the pecking order in the herd and is lost without Lucky if he goes out riding with us.  She cannot be tied to a hitching rail and left alone, as she will rear if another horse is taken from the hitching rail.  This is the only vice I have seen.  She is nice to tack up and groom, and great to mount.  She loves rides down the country lane, and is not spooky.  I would love to see her be placed with Lucky if we can swing it..... UPDATE (9/23): Josie is still at the ASAP farm. She is gaining weight and is quite content in her turnout area, yet she hasn't found a home. The farrier who trimmed her a few weeks ago found no trace of a club foot. She doesn't appear to be sore when back legs are picked up and stretched, which indicates that her arthritis is not severe. She does, however, gingerly walk down steep hills. She would be best if ridden on the flat, rather than steep trails.
Hang Ten Hanover (10yr)

"Hannah." Out of Beach Towel!!! Standardbred mare - Hannah is a red bay and she is a big girl.  Her back legs/ankles are white.  Hannah is dominant but not aggressive - she rules the roost at the farm and when it is feeding time all horses know she is first to come in! She is very sound but has been bred twice and has been confirmed as barren and unable to carry a foal to term even if she was to conceive.  She has had two babies that have made it to the races so owners are proud and want to find her a loving home. She is smart and loving with no vices.  She does not bite or kick and has great ground manners. Contact ASAP for more info. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: What a great mare! 11, completely sound, 950#, and 15.1. She is well loved by her racing family but will not hold anymore foals. She had two babies and her filly is racing in Illinois. Her colt picked up an infection from a needle and died. While we have had her we have not had much time to work with her so she is not saddle broke. We have lundged her in saddle and have sacked her out but thats about it. We are working with her more to get her broke and will continue until she is placed. She takes well to everything and is a fairly even mare. No spins but pins, mid herd'ish. Good girl with an even head on her shoulders. Enjoys children and the treats they contain.
Silver Ciara (21yr)

Ciara is an Arabian mare, 14.1hh, registered as grey but looks white. Current owner states, "She is a total people lover and will come running in from the pasture if you call her. No health or soundness issues. She had one colt the only time she was bred on July 4th, 2003. She stands 14.1 hands and is well broke to ride, we would like an intermediate rider on her as she has shied a few times. She recently developed a weird quirk, she has always tied fine but all of a sudden she will sit back and pull. She has always been great for the vet and farrier and is usually at the top of the pecking order. We usually use a tie down on her as she used to toss her head when she was younger but she has been fine the last few times I rode her without it." Please call ASAP for more details.
Kate

A Percheron/STB cross. Mare. A recent visitor of Kate's reported, "She is a very pretty mare who looks more draft than STB. She is fat and sassy, and was ridden by a 11 year old boy. She has a problem though, she takes off sometimes on them and is best driven with another horse. They have a real hard time holding her in when she decides she wants to go. I dont think she has been ridden without blinders on and don't know how she will react when she can really see what is around her." Please call ASAP for more details.
Hilde

POA. Please call for more details.
Rosedale Denise (6yr)

Oxford Fella - Rosedale Diane - Billie T. Bret  (grand daddy Cam Fella!) This six year old mare is completely sound - her owner passed away and she is now being donated. Foaling date:  March 18, 1999 Tattoo:  V2399 Bay mare with no white markings - currently at Harmony Oaks Stable in Marengo, IL This mare also being fostered by Dondi G. of Galena beginning 11/20/05.

Beau (21yr)
Quarter horse palomino. Entered program in 2004 - has been lovingly fostered by a family in Madison area until recently. Due to personal circumstances Beau must find his forever home.  Please contact us if you are willing to give Beau the life he deserves.
Jasmine (19yr)

Thoroughbred mare. "Jazzy." Sound with no vices. Bay w/star, 16HH, quiet, trots all the time when rode, UTD on shots (5-way, rabies) Ivermectrin given 2 wks ago, Equimac due in 4 wks, Teeth floated end of June, Trimmed 2 wks ago, does not like to be stalled, prefers to be outside This gal does it all! Current owner states, "She leads, loads, clips, bathes, walks right in trailers and does everything else perfect. Excellent ground manners. She has been trail ridden all over the place but is phobic about cows... otherwise not much else bothers her. She's 19 now but has the energy of a 2 year old! She could ride forever! She is easy to ride and INCREDIBLY sensitive (wonderful for a young dressage rider! Taught me a lot!) She will trot fast if not asked to trot more slowly, so that is about the only problem under saddle. She rides in a snaffle or a french-link snaffle and has never needed anything stronger. She used to chomp her teeth when she was excited, but I loosened her noseband and took off the flash and she has stopped. I would suggest they do the same. She did dressage from the time she was 8 until she was 13. Then I went to college and she was a trail horse with a friend of mine for 6 years. I got her back last winter and she remembered everything!!!! Her body couldn't quite do it all correctly because the muscling wasn't there anymore... but boy she didn't forget a single cue! She's a wonderful wonderful mare with a heart of gold. She's everyone's favorite at the barn." Please call ASAP for more details.
Chardoneigh (19yr)

Quarter horse mare. Palomino. 16.2hh. Current owner states, "She is a great trail horse, but needs to be retired from her hunter/eventing days. She has some arthritis in the front knee and hocks and a little bit of cataracts started in her eyes, it's been there for a few years but the vet said it's not getting any worse and could stay that way for quite some time. She develops a stable cough when confined, and where I have her, they do not allow pasture board, so she needs to retire outside somewhere. She cannot be ridden western (she doesn't like those saddles, too much pressure on the flank makes her uncomfortable) But she rides basic dressage and hunter under saddle just wonderful, she has a nice big, bouncy stride that is easy to post. She loves attention and knows she is a princess, we call her 'Pretty' and she will come running! She would be suitable for a teenager or adult wanting to ride English pleasure or learn some dressage. The arthritis in her front leg would prevent her from being ridden in hard competition or jumped anymore though. She's very brave on the trail and will go all day, I think the best sort of home would be a pasture mate with some trail riding. I did put pads on her in the summer for trail riding, she has those white softer feet that can bruise with the rocks, etc."
JD (14yr)

This horse is currently in foster care. He has a hurt rear leg, an injury he's had most of his life. Please call for details on JD.
Fox Valley Alex

Alex had a 60 day professional training session. He is very friendly and loving. He likes all of your attention and will bond with any horse. He has been on trail rides with other horses and he did very well. He will cross rivers and bridges with no problem. He is a great trail ride horse but he needs to be ridden or worked with on an everyday basis. You can not let him be left alone for a week then just hop on him and ride - he will buck. He NEEDS an experienced rider. Please call the ASAP office for more details.
Excalibur (8yr)

Appaloosa gelding. He is over 16 hands tall. He has been through professional training for several weeks.  He is primarily a trail horse.  He is a thinker, and slow to bond.  He has been known to pull back on the lead rope when tied, but at the trainer's this improved tremendously.  He needs a home where he can take his time to bond with someone and they can be patient with his Appaloosa ways.  He is beautiful and healthy and sound.  He doesn't get along with goats, which is why he is being placed.  He is currently in the Richland Center / Readstown area.  Contact ASAP for more information.  He has tons of potential as both a great pet and a horse for pleasure, trails, and showing!
Kennan's Jeffrey (6yr)

Standardbred gelding. Sire:  Cole Muffler Sire of Dam:  Lake Hills Tex!! Stands 15'1 hands - needs time to rest injured knee - gentle and loving New to ASAP as of Oct. 8. UPDATE (10/24): This horse, being only six, made $56,000 as a race horse!  He has come to us as a son of Cole Muffler.  He is cuddly and sweet, and even wears cats as hats that crawl up his long neck and sit on top if his head!  When he is sick of the cats he simply flings them off and they go flying!  He is so funny. Kennan's Jeffrey has an enlarged knee, which was caused from trauma during his racing days.  I do not believe it is a racing injury and think the owner said he hurt his knee while in his stall.  He raced on this knee.  It is not hot but is large.  We are hoping with rest the knee will reduce in size.  He has ample range of motion and it does not appear stiff, but once in awhile he does favor it.  Let's all hope this will heal.
