American Standardbred Adoption Program
Last Name First (3yr)

Thoroughbred mare - chestnut.
Jackpot (13yr)

Arabian gelding - 14.3 hands. Bay with white star and snip. "Jack" is a terrific horse. He does it all: Western, English, Dressage. Current owner states he may have been raced in the past. Very healthy and sound, Jack is also up to date on all shots. He loves people but has not been getting along with the owner's other horse. Located in Racine, WI. Update (2/11): Now located in Trempealeau, WI. His foster family has this to say about Jackpot, "He’s about 14 hands, slim and elegant, fine-boned and a beautiful, very ‘Arab’ head. He’s medium bay (brighter than a lot of Standardbreds, but not real red) with a white star+ a squiggle, varying amounts of white on all four legs, with striped hooves. He’s got a very fine, soft coat, and a naturally full, long tail. Tons of energy, but he settled down as soon as I let him out of his stall to mix with the others. So far, no signs of fighting, picking at others, etc. He will probably be somewhere close to top dog when this all shakes out. Very easy to handle (point at his foot, and he picks it up); easily approachable, naturally curious. Likes to rub his head on people, loves to be groomed. In spite of having a reputation from his previous stable, I have done all his care for his cut on his leg (except the stitches, of course) without any problem or tranquilizer, most of it without anyone even holding on to him; and he loaded in the trailer for the first time in years after only a few minutes. I see him as being excellent for an experienced horse person." UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY (3/28): Have been riding Jack; he is a real sweetheart. His manners are excellent, and he responds perfectly to voice commands. Picks up his canter leads right on cue, and wants to go, go, go! His gaits are very nice, and although we haven't tried him with a bit yet, I can feel that he would be easy to take to the next level as far as dressage. He already has that floating extended trot, and just a little work and he could be collected and working like a dream. We have been riding him Western, too, and he neckreins, and settles into a nice lope right away. He hasn't spooked at anything around here, and we have plenty to spook at, but he always on "maximum perk" when he's going someplace new. He's usually the first one to start the jump and skitter around the pasture, but has been steady under saddle, so what can I say? He hasn't had a halter on for weeks, because I lead him in and out of his stall with a handful of mane for a lead rope. Stands stock-still to be saddled, and puts his nose right into the hackamore.
Copper Cadet (8yr)

STB gelding - 14.2hh - bay. Cadet has a lightweight build. He is a quiet, nice, sound horse who was raced last year. He has had some hours under saddle but still needs training. Okay to turn out. Call the ASAP office for more details. Now at the ASAP farm! Update (3/21): A copper gelding who is one of the most beautiful horses ever to come through our program. He has low head carriage, which is so desirable for many who desire to adopt riding horses. We have begun preliminary saddle training with him. He is truly "eye candy."
R Quick Sketch (5yr)

STB mare - 14.3 hh. Light bay. This small and dainty mare is being returned to the program. She was never raced and has a good disposition. More information to follow. UPDATE (3/21): Now at the ASAP Farm! R Quick Sketch is a sweet little filly who is naturally curious and friendly. She had displayed some behavior problems in her previous adoptive home, but as of yet ASAP has not encountered the same problems with ground manners. She is very small - about 14 hands or a pinch better, and has a sweet little head. She is best friends with Fox Valley Whitney!
Ultimate Sam (10yr)

STB gelding - bay. Sam and "Grady" are together in foster care, and Sam is a little more dominant in a herd. He also likes to get up and go. The teen girls have been riding him, and he is a horse who would love to do speed events or competitive trail riding. He is a true athlete with a lot of energy! Update (2/20): It is unbelievable that Sam is still here at the ASAP farm - this horse is completely sound and well trained to ride - and has positive energy that means he wants to GO GO GO. He is demanding of attention, too! He loves it when people give him all the loving, and will take it if it is not immediately shown him!
Samba

Gelding. Just arrived at ASAP farm. Contact Susan at asapinc@mwt.net for more information.
Maximalist (6yr)

STB mare - pacer. 15.2h - dark bay with no markings. Raced as a 2 year old at Balmoral. Had a foal last year but owner does not want bred again. She had a hard time and was very thin. She is low on the totem pole and the other mares push her away from the food. Maxi is a real gem--very very mellow with no bad habits. She had accident when buggy overturned and she is stiff in the legs but not lame. She is very calm and pleasant, current on vaccinations and hoof trimming, but probably needs her teeth floated. Previous owner thinks she will be fine for light riding, though, and easy to train to saddle. Now at the ASAP farm!
Family Counsler (6yr)

STB gelding - 16.1hh. Barn name is Sigi. He is a 16.1h, bright bay gelding with two hind socks, pin fire marks along both rear suspensories, a front cuff and the cutest little star on his forehead. He has good ground manners and is not dominant. He loves to play and eat. He is starting lateral work in walk and trot. He should be starting his canter work soon. Still has some rough spots. Needs an intermediate level rider right now. His gaits are good and his walk and trot are like riding a cloud. Contact ASAP office for more information.
Buddy

Quarter Horse - 14.3 hh. Chestnut with blaze. Buddy has a petite build and very good manners. He loves people and is easy to catch in the pasture. Up to date on vacs. Broke to ride but he could use a refresher course. NOW AT THE ASAP FARM!
Always and Forever (4yr)

Sound Standardbred gelding. This SUPER SWEET 4yr old is waiting for a special adopter. He should have been a big puppy rather than a horse! He is the first one to greet you when you walk up to the back paddock and buries his face in your arms. When we first saw Always and Forever, he was a little guy, but he's grown! He now stands all of 15.2 hands and is quite handsome (cute white patch on forehead). He has gone through saddle training with Ray Waters. Now at the ASAP farm in De Soto!
Incredible Future (9yr)

16 hand STB gelding - Future has been in the ASAP program since 1995 - he set a new lifetime mark at Springfield, IL as a three year old before sustaining an injury to his leg that would end his racing career. He is gentle and sweet but can be dominant in a herd. He has not had any consistent riding for a year or more, so needs a firm but loving hand to get him back in gear. In West Bend now - call office for more details. He set a lifetime mark at Springfield, IL in 1995 (I believe it was that year) as a three year old, and he's been bouncing ever since retirement from racing. Please call and care. UPDATE (5/3): He is now in Trempealeau, WI, at a foster family's home, and they report he is a wonder--actually, they call him The Incredi-Bull! Although he was a pushy, nippy horse when they took him in, with some patience and plenty of activity, the Incredi-Bull has settled down to be a responsive, hard-working horse. He is bonding with their own horses and any ribs that showed are filling in with all-he-can-eat round bales. Updated pictures soon!
Man the Ship (3yr)
STB gelding out of Armbro Cadet and Finely Tuned. NEVER raced so is very sound. His nickname is Manny. Has a very good disposition, but just can't make the grade for racing. UPDATE (6/02): Now at the ASAP farm! Man the Ship is a stunning mahogany bay - around 15'1 hands - in great condition and never raced. He is trained to drive, but has not yet been ridden. He is young (3) and sound and won't be at ASAP very long!!!
JW's Lite 'n' Power (7yr)

STB gelding. 16hh - Beautiful head and conformation. Last raced in 2002. Well mannered and friendly, according to previous owner. The foster family has done a fantastic job with JW. He is now saddle trained to the point they say he may be a beginner's horse. Call the ASAP office for more details. This horse would be a great beginner's horse for an older child, or a steady, quiet horse for anyone. UPDATE (5/15): JW is now in foster care near Janesville, WI. He is going through extensive evaluation of his suspensory ligament, and will not be ready for adoption until mid-summer. Please call the ASAP office for more details.
Fury's Honey Bee

Aged mare who is in need of a forever home. This "honey" may be older, but she is still a great companion and a light riding horse. Her owner states that she has been trained for light trail riding, and she still has enough get-up-and-go to occasionally run across the pasture and do a little spirited play with the other horses. She may see shadows in one eye, but she can get around obstacles just fine. Please call the ASAP office for more on this mare.
Allie (2yr)

STB mare - blue roan. 14.2 hh and growing. She has a scar on her back leg from a run-in with a fence but she is sound. Professionally halter broke, stands well for the farrier and loves people. Located south of Bloomington, IL, with Buddy.
My Dream Kennedy (14yr)

STB mare - 15.2hh. This lovely all black mare was never raced. She is broke to ride, although she hasn't been ridden recently. No vices. She currently shares a pasture near St. Louis with Miss Royal. UPDATE (5/8): Now at the ASAP farm! A pretty black mare, but a stinker to catch in pasture! The foster family spent 45 minutes trying to catch her the other night. Once caught - no problem. She will be saddle trained soon. At the ASAP farm. this slick, black mare is in outstanding condition. She is beautiful and sound. She is a bit aloof, and doesn't always come right away, but does submit for grain. My husband can catch her rather effortlessly. She last raced in 1989, and was purchased by an Illinois harness horse owner and trainer in 1991, where she was a brood mare. So Kennedy has been a bit "out of the loop" when it comes to being ridden or driven. She should quickly remember her training with some consistent ground work and handling. As breathtaking as she is, she won't be at ASAP very long! UPDATE (5/25): It has been about two weeks now since My Dream Kennedy came to ASAP. We have had the opportunity to reevaluate her and have found the following: *** she is difficult to catch when turned out! *** she responds well to men - Craig can walk right up to her and say "Whoa, mare!" and she stops. For Susan, uh... different story! *** Kennedy is timid - seems a bit shy when working around her head. Easily spooked. *** Kennedy is breathtakingly beautiful - a true trotting horse - no sign of a pace *** she is definitely not for any type of beginner - a good horse for someone who wants a bit of a challenge to earn her trust *** Susan has to show this mare some grace - she was with the same owners for at least 14 years and is traumatized by the transitions she has experienced and not interested in bonding with anyone at this point, although she warms up to the men more readily.
Pa Pa's Belly (7yr)
STB mare - bay with white star. 15hh. Extremely beautiful and has a muscular build. Sound. Located in McGregor, Iowa, with Rocking Standout. This mare shows a slight "gimp" when asked to trot or canter.
Idlewhile Coltster (5yr)

Standardbred pacer - 16+ hands - bay. Easy to handle - trainer has had this horse since age one. Bowed tendon in front. This very large horse (all of 16 hands) has a wide chest, is stocky, and flashy as all get-out! He has a beautiful head and his bowed tendon is making a speedy recovery as it heals. Excellent saddle prospect!
Falcon In Flight (8yr)

STB gelding - bay with two white socks and a star. 14.2hh. Last raced in September, but Falcon pulled a suspensory and has been on stall rest since then. He needs about four more months of rest, but can be turned out in a small paddock at this time. He is a quiet horse with a good temperament. At the moment, he's on the thin side as a way to keep extra weight off his injured leg. Located in IL. UPDATE (5/25): Now at the ASAP farm. This is a petite horse who seemed to bond instantly with Tristinette, but now his main heartthrob is My Dream Kennedy. He spent much of Saturday chasing after the black beauty! This amazing gelding earned almost a QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS during his racing career! At eight years old, he still has 20 or more years to offer YOU as a pleasure horse. To watch him trot and gallop across the large arena is a privilege.............his tail held high and head up and neck arched, he almost has some Morab qualities about his conformation! He is also cantering in a collected manner right now (as he chases My Dream Kennedy). UPDATE (6/02):
Vices: Temperament-wise, there are no vices when handling him. He is calm and loving and gentle - trailers well - stands quietly when tied - you can rub him anywhere and his lip goes up in enjoyment! The little vice we need to communicate is that he has never been herded with mares before - well, not until he got to ASAP. He has turned into a pseudo-stallion, chasing other geldings away from "his" mares. When with geldings alone, Falcon acts like any other gelding, but this is something to take into consideration when adoption takes place- he would be best off with other geldings, or with one other mare and no geldings. He will be ready to ride in late August - we want to make sure that suspensory ligament is well set.............he is just off stall rest and doing well - no signs of any soreness, but this would give you the opportunity to get him well-started on saddle training and the necessary groundwork that goes along with it. Don't miss out on this gem - $550
Too Tall Topol (6yr)

STB gelding - 16+ hh - bay. Too Tall was raced until three months ago when he sustained a hock injury. This BIG Standardbred has a nice temperament and he's currently located in Illinois. UPDATE (4/8): Too Tall arrived at his foster family's farm in Trempealeau, WI: "Too Tall is a gentle giant. The poor thing arrived in a snow storm with the wind howling and ice pelting him but kept his cool. He was apprehensive about entering the shed with goats blatting and donkeys hee-hawing!! He is so intelligent, he just eased himself into this probably terrifying situation steadily. He is in excellent condition too. Sat. he endured lots of primping and a hair cut. What a lover. He drops his head to be scratched and likes to rest his head on your shoulder otherwise." UPDATE (5/8): This young man is all of 17 hands high! He is big all over, and the biggest love bug you have ever seen. Trusting, gentle, hungry for loves and hugs... easy to get along in a herd (submissive, in fact!). Temperament wise, he is my pick for someone who wants a friend AND riding/driving horse. Looks-wise, he is valiant and has a beautiful head that is in proportion to all of the rest of him - and a long, thick flowing mane and tail. Will get picture soon! At the ASAP farm.
Miss Royal (17yr)
STB mare - 14hh. This teeny mare is a beautiful gray who raced for many years, earning $42,000. She is broke to ride, although she hasn't been ridden recently. No vices. Friendly and ready for a new home. Located near St. Louis with My Dream Kennedy. UPDATE (5/8): Now in Wisconsin! Tentatively placed with foster family. Sara Wedwick rode Miss Royal last weekend. She is in love... I think it goes both ways!
A Team Hall (4yr)

Standardbred gelding. 15.1 hh. A Team is a bay trotter with a muscular build. Raced in Kentucky. Has been on stall rest due to a fractured sesamoid in January, but is now recovered. A Team is saddle trained. Please call the ASAP office for more information about this horse. Update (5/8): A Team is now at the ASAP farm. A bit head shy (disturbing to note) - timid - temperament-wise. A Team will need a loving, patient person. He is not easily unglued, but always looking for something "scary." Yesterday the farrier came and he spent about 20 minutes at a full gallop, attempting to elude my nephew who was trying to get a lead rope on him to get his feet trimmed! No soreness noted during the round-up, which found him running in tight circles on both sides, trotting and GALLOPING. We rode him Saturday with just a halter and lead rope for a short time - soreness on hip bone noted. Rest recommended but he is healing quickly. Update (5/25): This guy has been relocated to a foster farm right near ASAP. His foster family reports he is a terrific ride, and he's their first pick when they head out on the trails. His hip soreness is fading fast, almost gone. Please call now for a chance at this guy!
Final Act (23 yr)

Standardbred bay mare - set a world record in her prime - this mare is being placed because she is barren after having several foals. She needs a loving family who will use her as a companion horse. Phone ASAP office for more details. Update from Foster Family: Although the picture looks light, she is a really dark bay. Doc said she could be out on the barnlot grass so we have had her out there a little while. Both girls have had their bath while David mucked out stalls. People that come over cannot believe the change in her in just a few weeks!
I'm a Knockout (2yr)

Standardbred filly. Her name says it all! Bay with striking blaze. Knockout is a real sweetie who has gone through some training but hasn't been raced. Currently located in Indiana. Please call the ASAP office for more details.
Earl's Kay Tee "Mercy" (20yr)
STB mare. Returning with J.C. Mercy is another great trail horse. She is very calm and loving. Mercy has moonblindness that is not problematic when treated with ointment.

Nash's Nuisance "J.C" (8yr)
STB gelding.14.2hh. Returning with Mercy. J.C. is good under saddle, and he's extremely nice. He does kick out at the farrier, but never at his current owners. J.C. Is boss of the herd, but has a gentle manner. All three of these returning horses will come when you whistle. UPDATE (5/15): Now located in northern MN at a foster farm.

Murlys Choice (2yr)
STB gelding - black bay. 15.1hh and growing. Trainer Kenyon Walker worked with this horse and said that he just wasn't a pacer, and as a consequence, he wasn't registered. Good natured, this one will follow you around like a baby. Sound. Located at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Jane's Fireball (7yr)
STB gelding - bay. Also trained by Kenyon Walker. Fireball wasn't fast enough to race in Chicago, but he is now ready for saddle training. Sound. Should be easy to retrain as he is an even-tempered guy. Also located at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
Little Saturday Night (8yr)
STB gelding whose bloodlines trace to Abercrombie and Nihilator! His body is more of a Quarter Horse build, but his head strongly resembles Abercrombie. His owner reports Little Saturday Night is an extremely intelligent horse who is good with people, sound, and up-to-date on all vacs, including West Nile. Please call the office soon if you're interested! Now in foster care in Illinois - possibly to be adopted by foster family
Hasty Roan (5yr)

Hasty is shedding out and looking like a true "roan." (4/16/03)
STB gelding - 16hh - bay roan. Trotter. This horse won $50,000! However, his owners have decided his personality is not suited for the track. He is very laid back and lovey. He wants to be a family pet. This guy does not have the aggressive personality to be a race horse. He bowed a tendon in September and is currently on one bute a day, but he is healing nicely. Located in Waukegon, IL. Call the ASAP office for more details. Update (2/20): Personally I cannot figure out why Hasty has not been adopted yet. He is becoming more handsome all the time. Yes, he does have this annoying habit of walking away from you when you come up to the gate to say "hello" to him. Once you have ahold of his halter, however, he seems ready to go - and is eager to please. He has silver hairs running throughout his mane and tail. His bowed tendons are healing nicely. He is not lame whatsoever on his legs - but the bows are still evident. We can only hope the tendons are not set yet - that they will continue to become more normal-looking over time. He is a BIG BOY! And he appears to be an easy keeper. We will put a saddle on him soon. UPDATE (3/21): This big guy has had lots of lookers and admirers, but no one to give him a permanent home. This is partially due to the fact that Hasty is broke to drive but not yet broke to ride. He is a very very large horse and the spring is bringing out his beautiful bay roan colors. He is a little timid when worked alone, but being with another horse when being led or harnessed gives him confidence. He loves the ladies!
Fox Valley Whitney (4yr)

She fits her name - this dainty little dark bay STB filly is 14 hands (barely). Foaled in 1999, she has a delicate look and small head with a feminine face and big bright eyes. Whitney has established herself as the top mare in the herd in our pasture - and loves her grain. Not raced. Has had some saddle training. UPDATE:
Whitney is located at the ASAP farm. She is type of horse who is the first at the gate, the first to notice someone walking toward the pasture, and the first to ask for and receive attention. She is very smart and extremely quick. This little mare has proven she can move! She has lots of positive energy. She is great at the walk trot and canter, and she does pace under saddle so anyone who adopts her will have to be aware of that. She has never offered to buck or rear during her training, and the trainer likes her get-up-and-go. She will need someone who understands that she is still young and the more she is used the better and more refined she will become. There was a past concern about a former race injury that made her front leg sore, but during training she has shown no lameness or soreness before, during, or after rather intense riding sessions. Call ASAP to set up a time to see this delicate little filly! UPDATE: Whitney has proven she is good at trailer loading--but only in a stock or four-horse slant. We were not able to load this mare into a two-horse trailer, so keep this in mind if you are interested in adopting her.
Dolly's Delight (4yr)

STB mare - bay. 15+ hh. Dolly showed all the signs of being a true champion until a fever struck her down at age two. She foundered and her racing career ended. However, Dolly is now a terrific riding horse, and she is ready for a new home. Come by the ASAP farm to see this tall beauty. She is a pretty horse with a sweet face and small mouth/nose. Dolly is curious and likes attention. She hangs on the fence when visitors come by, asking for attention. Update (2/20): Even though this mare was ill a few years ago and foundered as a result of a high fever, her feet look very good at this point. She is not lame. She is broke to drive, and even an inexperienced driver could take her right down the road with traffic whizzing by and Dolly didn't flinch. 100% dependable in the harness and cart! So, our next step is to get that saddle on her. I know she has had people sitting on her back, but now for some more training. She is a mare worth your time - and would be a great kid's horse. Shoes in the front might be considered, although our farrier doesn't feel it would make a whole lot of difference either way. Update (3/21): This gal is a special mare who is longing for a human friend to spend lots of hours with her. She is friendly and comes right up to the gate. She snuggles her head into your arms and will stand that way for long periods of time. Nothing scares her. Although foundered years ago from a high fever, her feet were recently trimmed and one can hardly notice a hoof problem. She is sound. She had a saddle on last weekend, and I was the first one up! It was, as usual, uneventful to sit on her back and take a few steps. She is ready for that special person!
JD (11yr)

Gelding - Pinto/Arabian mix. JD is a love. His left rear has a bowed tendon and he holds it up sometimes. The vet has given approval for him to be ridden lightly, however. UPDATE (3/28): Jd arrived at the ASAP farm last Friday evening. He is a wonderfully calm and gentle horse with an easy-going nature. His rear leg (where the bowed tendon occurred) is a bit noticeable and swollen. He will hold the leg up if he is out in muddy areas or areas where there is a lot of snow. This must put extra pressure on the leg. However, when we take JD out to lead him around, or if he is ridden at the walk or trot, he does not show any signs of lameness. Rachel, 4, took a short spin on JD last Sunday - both JD and Rachel were smiling! We will waive minimum adoption fee for a qualified adopter for this horse who will give him the time and love and unconditional acceptance that he needs for full recovery.
Fanover Legacy (4yr)
STB mare - dark bay. 14.2hh. Never raced. Legacy was not fast enough and so never made it onto the race track. However, she is now sound, even though she suffered a bowed tendon in the past. Sweet and ready for a new life as your riding or carriage horse. Located in IL.
Alba Magoo (10yr)
Bay STB mare - sound - built like a Morgan. Alba is between 14-15 hh and is a bit frisky. Last raced 3-4 years ago. Has been ridden before. Located in Mississippi.
Gem Jay (11yr)
Bay STB gelding - sound - 16.2 hands. Raced 2-3 years ago. Hasn't been handled much recently but has great potential! Located in Mississippi.
Swift Advantage (11yr)
Paint stock gelding - grulla in color. His owner has this to say about him: "I have owned him since he was six. I want Swift to be able to find a special someone who will be able to spend lots of time with him. Three months after purchasing him he took a fall while out in the pasture and fractured a bone in his hock. We took him to Madison where he underwent surgery and two screws were put into his leg. Swift had months of stall rest and a year out to pasture. He does move with a slight limp but it is only noticeable at the trot. Our vet had told us it was due to some arthritis that had set in. He is wonderful for trail riding as he very rarely spooks." Located near Green Bay, WI.
Gemini Raider (7yr)
STB stallion at Bell Valley Farm - tall dark bay! He is quiet as studs go - no striking or kicking - easy to handle on the ground - last raced at Balmoral in 2000. Call ASAP office for further details. UPDATE (7/1): Gemini Raider - He should have undergone surgery to remove his "manliness" by now - this guy should be a gelding? He is in foster care with a wonderful volunteer in Waukegan Illinois who has been quite impressed with both Gemini and Bell Valley Foul. Gemini had formerly been turned out in pasture with a gelding and had been a gentleman - his ground manners are wonderful. No pictures yet available.
Sidney Rain (3yr)
STB gelding - light bay - 15hh. This trotter was trained for the track but never raced. He loves children and follows people around like a puppy. Sound. Located in IL.
