American Standardbred Adoption Program
Kelly's Chance (9yr)

Bay gelding; 16 hands; quiet; fine boned; great kid's horse potential;
loves attention and would like to have a family of his own. Submissive to humans but has changed status in the herd depending on what other geldings are present. Clacks his teeth at me in the morning (a submissive behavior). Would make a great first (older) kid's horse. In foster care at Sunburst farm. UPDATE: Kelly's Chance is now back from saddle training!
Risky Miss (6yr)
Rodondo Beach, California - Thoroughbred mare - dark bay with two white socks This horse is sound - she is a show horse with high energy - loves to jump and is excellent at three day eventing. Not for beginners yet ready to provide an experienced person with unlimited hours of riding competition. She is 16 hands high. If seriously interested and approved for adoption, phone the ASAP office for a contact number. (Horses in California will remain in the state as we seek a qualified family for them.)
Tara's Melody (17yr)
Melody is a wonderful, sweet tempered mare. She is bay in color. She has great feet (according to my farrier). She loads in a trailer, she stands perfectly still for the farrier, she loves to be groomed. According to her previous adopter, she was used extensively for driving and riding. He stated that he had a couple of girls around the ages of 10 and 12 in the neighborhood who were riding Melody on a regular basis. She appears to be perfectly sound and healthy. Her previous owner thought she may have a touch of arthritis in her front knee, but I have seen nothing to indicate that. She has a beautiful floating trot. She gets along well with all the horses here. She seems fit and at a good weight--and what a beautiful mover! In foster care at Amos Acres in Whitewater, WI.
Honey (O.G.) Fitz (11yr)

Retired Standardbred gelding - 15+ hands - stout - dark bay. Earnings of half million dollars ($500,000)! Very nice personality - turns out well in a herd - good natured - loves attention. His legs show a little wear and tear from the track, but he is sound in pasture. Honey loves ponies and loves children. He is very powerful looking, and has a seven year old lead him around - loves "little ones"! Adopt a bit of racing history! UPDATE: Now back from saddle training!

Bold Egyptian and Honey Fitz are never seen apart.
Quick Sketch (4yr)
STB mare - small dainty bay with a "great" head - 14 1/2 - 15 hands - Sweet disposition and beautiful. Owner believes this horse would be an excellent kids horse for riding or showing. Quick Sketch bowed a tendon and never had the chance to race. Watch the site for pictures in the near future. Inquire by calling the ASAP office. This horse is still in Illinois until March 1st.
Knoteworthy Dude (10yr)

Dude is a 10 year old STB gelding who had a long racing career and he should be proud! His previous owners were, and wanted the best for him once he was finished pacing at the tracks. He was a stallion up until almost a year ago, but has settled in nicely into a herd with other geldings and does not display studd-ish behavior with the horses awaiting adoption at the ASAP farm. Dude was initially adopted by a therapeutic riding program and was ridden on trails. Knoteworthy Dude is truly a beautiful black - about 14'3 hands - and is easy to handle. (He does have calcification in the knee joint on both front knees but this has thus far not presented any problems either racing or for riding. A trainer who was consulted about Dude's knees reported that his knees could be drained but that fluid would eventually build up again. There is no ongoing treatment recommended at this time.) UPDATE: Dude is now back from saddle training!
Pix's Pride (8yr)

Pix's Pride is a gelding who welcomes attention! He craves people around him, petting him, feeding him, and seems as though he has been quite spoiled during his lifetime (in a great way!). According to his previous owner, he has never kicked or bitten at any time. He has had some episodes of moon-blindness but is seeing fine at this point. He will walk with a slight limp, since he suffered a rotated coffin bone three years ago, but it is not a significant limp. He is always watching people and waiting for the chance to "beg" to be taken out of the paddock for hugs and kisses. He loves being brushed, getting his hoofs picked out, and being talked to. He is extremely tall yet gentle enough that he may be suitable as a therapy horse for taller persons. Please think about giving Pix's Pride a home! ASAP farm.
Katura (13yr)

Standardbred mare - totally sound! She was the first to come off the trailer a few days ago and obediently walked right to her stall. Katura never raced, but has had six foals during her lifetime. She has a great personality and is a dark bay with a kind eye. She has excellent conformation. She is able to be bred, whereas it has been recommended that Snafu not be bred due to bad colostrum last spring. Katura is tall - at least 15'2 - 15'3 hands - and is also a quite confident and personable mare. ASAP farm.
Mercedes (4yr)
Chestnut Thoroughbred/Warmblood mare. This horse is around 15 hands, and is very well trained under saddle. She has a white blaze. Tragically, she has become blind due to detached retinas. The marvelous thing about Mercedes is that she is turned out in electric fence and does well despite her blindness. Owner is seeking a qualified adopter who will ride and love this mare - breeding rights included. Call 608-634-2426.
Dick the Bruiser (12yr)

STB gelding - The owner had to meet us at the farm, insisting that we not pull in the driveway, since Bruiser will not allow himself to be caught if he sees a horse trailer! Bruiser is going into training immediately - to work out some rough edges from not being ridden for the past year or so. He is a bay, and around 15'2 hands - nice head and conformation - at the bottom of this herd pecking order. UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: Have never had a problem with him at feeding time or any other time. Knows leg commands and some verbal. Smooth gaits. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Langley
Legacy Lin

Always wants to know what you're doing. Dominant in a herd. Was
over-ridden by the previous adopters and needs some remedial training to get him over his fear of being ridden again. Please call the ASAP office for more details. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Dudley The Dragon (7yr)

16 hand black STB gelding; healthy; Dudley has had some professional training under saddle. He's large-boned, tall and spirited - strong - would make a great trail horse! Needs an intermediate or higher level rider. Gets along well with all the other horses. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Woe Bird (7yr)

Standardbred bay gelding - last raced at Balmoral Park on November 27 of last year. Woe Bird is a pleasant, quiet horse - 15'2 hands with a medium build. The owner says this horse is sound - and he is very friendly! He just cannot make the time necessary any longer to be a champion race horse. Adopt a piece of racing history - this special horse earned $100,000! In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Sporty Bunny (2yr)

STB bay filly with a white star. 14'2 hands. She is full of energy and very pretty with a silky coat. She is sound--just not fast enough on the track. UPDATE: Now back from saddle training!
Sunset Rondezvous (4yr)
This standardbred mare is big, standing at 16 hands. Her last start was at Balmoral Park on January 15, so she is fresh off the track. She is out of Ideal Society. Hauls well. She is bay with her right hind ankle white. Now available at ASAP farm.
William Lee (3yr)

What a special horse - "Billy" is what he is affectionately called and he fits the description. Standing almost 17 hands, Billy ended his racing career at the tender age of three, sustaining bowed tendons during a claiming race. The owner was committed to the best care possible for this gelding, and donated him to our program. He is gentle with a very kind eye - quiet - and he is a bay. His bowed tendons have set - ASAP volunteers are wrapping his legs at night to give him extra support but he is sound and ready to go to a loving home for retraining as a saddle horse, or for use as a driving horse (for which he is already well trained). William Lee is so sweet you want to spend all day in a cuddle with him - he has a "sad" eye (when he was a colt a halter was left on that was too small and the halter slightly embedded in his eye area - thus, the "sad" look. He is waiting for someone tall to match his size and someone with a sweet disposition that matches his. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
Mack Drive (4yr)

Beautiful conformation and coloring, lots of energy and flashy. He's getting a winter coat but his foster family still brings him in at night. A sweetie, he's about 15-1 or 15-2 hands with lots of muscle. But he's easy to handle and comes to you when you call his name. Mack moves beautifully, nice gaits--all around a joy to watch! He's only 4 years old so he has many years ahead of him. Has definite show potential. In foster care at Sunburst farm.
